i already talked to tara. yep she is in gaineville. about 30 minutes north of ocala. she told me there are gangs there so thats why i wondered what part of town is safest to move too.

Thanks :)

Maybe Lisa could help. She's a realtor in Orlando.

i think orlando is about an hour away so might be too far.

thanks, runs to check out sight!!

Hello... there are pretty much Gangs everywhere!!!

Ocala is kinda small town feel... Lots of horse farms and horse breeding in the area, it is the horse captital of Florida... One of the only areas in florida with any sort of rolling landscape... There are still some pretty rural (aka Florida redneck) areas and some newer homes as well. It gets pretty hot during the summer and cooler in the winter b'cause it is inland...

Go to zillow.com and look up some of the neighborhood info

Since it's not a huge town, just driving around might help you decide where you want to live. I've never thought of it as rural really, but of course the outskirts are. I've been off the highway a lot near there going up and down 75, in the busy area of Ocala. Only been further inside Ocala a few other times years ago.

I suppose what you define as rural depends on what you are used to... For instance, I am a born and raised Floridian and grew up in St. Pete and now live in South Florida (both of which have almost NO open land) so for me, this area of Florida is rural to me... if you are from say Kansas, then no, it would be more city... But it is not a big place or big city... Just an average sized central Florida sized town but with more rural roots...

Yeah I know what you mean. I grew up in New Port Richey, straight up 19 from St. Pete! :) Yes I do agree that away from the coasts Florida is pretty rural. Ocala is in the middle of a rural area. The scenery is pretty boring before Ocala on hwy 75 from where I am now and boring again after Ocala before Gainesville. But I just don't imagine Ocala itself as really small town, but yeah compared to St. Pete there's not much in Ocala.

I don't care for Florida in general, but I did like Ocala when I worked there. As someone else mentioned... kinda small town feel.

The mother of one of my best friends lives in Ocala... maybe I can get him to give me a recommendation.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

when researching cities for a possible move - i always start with city-data forums (linked above by Big Dog). Then after I get an intial feel - I move onto to trulia.com and use the zipcode for where the future employment will be - and check out the surrounding housing to get a feel of how it looks and what is typical.

Ocala is very small town feeling and as christeen said - rural-ish.

good luck!

im surprised he picked small town (rural) as he is a big city boy. we live in rural now and he goes crazy cuz "theres nothing to do here". he also had an offer in orlando. that would probably be bigger. oh well, we will see.
