My wife arrived in the U.S. on the 14th of October. Because of a temp job I got we flew to Costa Rica on the 16th of November. As of yet she still has not recieved her green card or SS card. Who would I contact to see what the deal is or should I not worry yet as it has only been 2 month's?

The immigration officers I talked to said she would have no problem returning to the U.S as her visa has been endorsed with an entry stamp stating CR1. However, it is up to the airlines and the clerks behind the counter who have all the power as to whether she could get the boarding pass. After our nightmare with the American Airlines employee upon leaving Baltimore I'm worried they won't let my wife recieve the boarding pass though her visa has been endorsed.

Starting to worry here. I would feel much more at ease after the green card arrives at our house in MD.

Thanks!

As long as the stamp in your wife's passport is not expired, she will be ok. You should go to a SS card office and apply for a card. The GC should have reached to you by now. You can go online at USCIS website and plug in your info to see the status of your GC, or you can call them (USCIS)

Thanks, though I don't know where to type it in. I put in her USCIS 13 digit number but it shows nothing. Also she never got a "good through date on the stamp. Just a entered on 10/14/2009 CR1---no more. Though her visa sais "upon endorsement valid for one year".

Did she receive a Welcome letter from USCIS after her arrival to the US? If you did then there will be listed her alien number which you can use to find out whats happen with her green card. When my wife arrived from Colombia to the US she received her green card in 15 days. The best thing you can do is call USCIS and find out whats happend.

The stamp in her passport is her temporary green card. She can travel with it as long it has not pass the 1 year valid date.

As for the social security card, you may need to go to the local office and apply for. When I applied for my wifes CR-1 visa I had put on the application for them to send her the social security card, but it never arrived after receiving the green card. So we went to the local office and applied for one since it was not requested by USCIS.

Thanks for the reply's. She never recieved a welcome letter or anything in the mail. Just a copy of the page she signed upon arrival where the IO wrote in her A-number and me and my wife, as well as the IO signed it. It stated that the info would be forwarded to the USCIS and the green card would arrive shortly. That was in the middle of October. On the USCIS website I see nowhere to type in her A-number to check case status of her green card. All I see is to check case status of the original petition.

What worries me the most is that the wicked witch who works for American Airlines at BWI gave my wife a hard time for not having a green card when picking up our boarding passes for Costa Rica. When I pointed out that her visa was stamped (endorsed) she said that was just an entry stamp---not an endorsement. She was looking for a large, page sized stamp in her passport (I gues an I-551 stamp) and said that what my wife has is an entry stamp and is not an endorsement. All her stamp says is admitted on 10/14/2009 and CR1 is penned in as her type of admission. The IO at Miami upon entry on the 14th said she was free to travel as stamped when I asked upon entry.

Because of the problem at BWI we took the flight to Miami and almost didin't continue on to CR. However, in Miami we ran to the imigrations office and talked to an IO at the window who assured us she was good to travel. He pointed at the line that said "upon andorsement serves as a temporary I-551 valid for one year ". He also stressed that the witch was only an employee of an airline----not an imigration officer!

Of course now I worry that we might run into the same kind of witch while leaving Costa Rica who wont give my wife a boarding pass because her CR1 visa has already been used. Maybe I worry too much but I really need to know where her green card is as it seems everyone on this site recieves it within a month.

thanks again!

That's too long for her to receive her GC. Especially with no welcome letter. Call your senator/congressman and have him check on what's happenings.

Just make an infopass appointment at your local USCIS office.. .They can put the big I551 stamp in the passport and check on the welcome letter and GC production and order it in case it was not ordered... No need for a congressman or senator yet...

The problem with aqn infopass apointment is that my wife is in Costa Rica now. I'm worried of the airline attenndents not letting her leave---not worried about being alowed in. Of course she has to get on the plane first. Thinking we might have screwed up.

Hit them with BOTH barrels. Infopass AND contact your congressman.

Looks like she already has the I-551 temporary stamp GC in her PP and shouldn't have any trouble travelling.
