POE for cr1 alien question

Hi

I will be entering the states on Friday with my CR1 and flying from Gatwick to Atlanta on Delta(if you care to know). I just wondered if the POE for a new immigrant is a longer process or a shorter process generally? Is it much different to a vwp visit? What should i expect?

Thanks

Hi...

From what I hear, it is a bit longer because of the paperwork-depending on what airport, what time during the day or night, and what officer you get lucky enough, or unlucky enough to have.

I am told that it typically takes 30-60 mins. through NY/JFK. I imagine Atlanta's POE would be on par with that, as both are rather busy airports.

Good luck and have a safe trip. I am happy for you and Belle that this long road has finally come to a beautiful end for you both.

Just be prepared to wait and to be polite (it's the South and politeness will make things easier for you). I was on the verge of explosion when I entered (due to the $hittiest flight ever), and probably would have not had the best time in Atlanta because the CBPs in Chicago were already a tad annoyed.

When I arrived in Chicago, I had to wait in the line for non-residents, and when I came up to the window, I was told to wait for someone to pick me up and bring me to the immigrant visa window. Took about 20 minutes for someone to show up, and there was already a line. After another 35 minutes or so (the people in front of me had problems communicating with the officer), I went up to the window, the guy asked some questions (nothing too demanding, just to ensure it was me I assume), took a picture and fingerprints, stamped the passport, and gave me a little leavelet. That's it.

Have a good flight!

I know that Mary's (mianishqsrose) hubby had big time issues going thru Atlanta, and I believe that's where they turned goldenheart's sweetie away, too.

Proof that the Atlanta airport is the gateway to hell. (Cue evil laughter.)

But I bet if you smile and kiss their butts while charming them with your fine UK accent, you'll be okay.

I don`t kiss butt but i think i get the idea. thanks everybody. I wondered if there was likely to be extra security like a full cavity search to welcome me in type of thing?
