I will go back to philippines in march,2010 to marry my girlfriend. but i had a very tough year and will have to file bankruptcy in jan. I hope someone knows if this will disqualify me from being able to get my wife here. If so ,i need to tell her so we dont get our hopes up. does it matter whether i filed bankruptcy before any visa paperwork has been filed or after ? really concerned that i might not get to bring her here. thanks for any help with this .

I make enough money , around 40k just much less than i was making. I am concerned that the act of bankruptcy its self would disqualify me. thanks for your response.

If you qualify based on your current income, which it sounds like you do, then it should have no effect. They are concerned that you currently earn enough to support the intending immigrant...

As long as your current income is over the poverty guidelines, you will be fine.
