"Fingerprint not available" on Green card

Hello,

My wife received her 10-year green card a few months back. We just noticed that on the card, instead of an image of her fingerprint, it says "Fingerprint not available." Is this okay? We are set to leave for our vacation in a few days outside US. I hope this won't be a problem.

Thank you for any response.

Best,

Jin

Green cards without a fingerprint are not valid. Sorry, but your wife needs to get a bionic finger. I know they cost almost $100,000 but without it she will never be able to travel again.

All joking aside, what's the problem exactly? Do you seriously think USCIS would send you a green card that's not valid because it doesn't contain a finger print? What about people who are missing a finger? They can never become LPRs? I mean, seriously . . .

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

While I've not heard of recent green cards issued without a fingerprint, older green cards which are still valid don't have fingerprints. If USCIS issued the card with that notation, then the card should be valid and you shouldn't have any problems. If you are very concerned you can always make an infopass appointment at your local USCIS office and discuss it with an immigration officer. I wouldn't waste the time calling the Misinformation line :) .

hi hi,

I got the same problem as you did, no fingerprint on my 2 yr green card... So did you contact the infopass? It'd so helpful to share with us what happened, since there would be many people have the same problem.

Thank you in advance!

My wife didn't have a problem getting back into the country with the green card with the missing fingerprint, but the customs officer told us to contact USCIS and get it taken care of

I made an appointment through infopass and went to talk to an immigrations officer. She said it was an error on the part of USCIS and told me to file form I-90. I am still waiting on USCIS to send us a new card. I didn't have to pay the fee of course.

Sorry to ask again... But do you know how long would it take to receive the new one after the filing?

I don't know how long it would take. I submitted the form about a month and a half ago and still no card. But if you need to travel, you can take the receipt letter from USCIS to the Infopass appointment and get your passport stamped with something.
