A quick question about documents needed for the kids in regards to permission from the other parent to bring the children across the border. Is it something similar to a Letter of Consent to Travel or is it more extensive than that? My fiance understandably wants something in writing in regards to my ex' consent to move the girls with me, and my ex is willing, just need to know what specific type of document we need, and what needs to be on it. If anyone has any info, thank you!

I-129F sent: August 18th, 2006

NOA2: October 2nd, 2006

Packet 3 returned to Mtl: October 26th, 2006.

Medical: January 10th, 2007

Interview: January 23rd, 2007, at 2:30. APPROVED

Entry to the US: Feb 28th, 2007 POE Ivy Lea

All 3 AOS transferred to California July 5th, 2007

Finally movement on my AOS, touched on Feb 22 & 24th

GC May 11 2008, date of april 29th on them.

I have sole custody so there is nothing my ex couldn have done about it, thats all they needed for his visa....just our seperation agreement that preceeded our divorce which outlined the custody agreement. 'mother has sole custody with father having reasonable access with reasonable notice' :)

03/02/2001 : Met face to face at a concert in Sault Ste Marie Michigan

07/06/2004 : I-129F Sent

07/19/2004 : I-129F NOA1 (Receipt)

10/20/2004 : I-129F NOA2 (Approved)

11/01/2004 : Package Received By NVC

11/04/2004 : Rec'd Instructions (Pkt 3)

07/01/2005 : Completed Instructions (Pkt 3)

09/01/2005 : Rec'd Appointment Letter (Pkt 4)

11/07/2005 : Interview!!!

11/20/2005 : Visa Received

12/03/2005 : US Entry, finally home

02/04/2006 : Wedding !!!

02/13/2006 : AOS, AP & EAD filed

02/16/2006 : AOS, EAD & AP rec'd

02/24/2006 : NOA for AP rejected (I ticked wrong box duh0

07/04/2006 : AP used again to pick up my son, activated his visa (he was a follow to join)

07/13/2006 : AP touched ??? (possibly because I used it july 4th?)

08/12/2006 : AOS touched

08/14/2006 : Gerrys biometrics

10/10/2006 : AOS interview for Gerry

10/28/2006, 11/11/2006, 11/18/2006, my AOS touched ; 10/12/2006,12/04/2006 : Gerry's AOS touched

12/07/2006 : AOS APPROVED !!!!!!!

12/16/2006 : GREEN CARDS IN HAND!

09/24/2008 : Apply for Removal of Conditions

09/26/2008 : 1 Yr Conditional Resident Extention

11/01/2008 : Biometrics for both of us

01/??/2009 : 10 Year Green Cards!!!

I got a court document saying that I could leave the country with the child and move to ............. It then states I need to give him 1 month notice if I was moving any farther than 100 miles from that location.

Feb. 15/ 07 --- GC approved

Nov. 17/09 -- I-751 sent (Day 1)

I had had the court documents from years ago stating that I had sole custody.

It was suggested to me by another immigration forum that I should have something more recent, so I had my ex go to a notary and have a "letter of permission" drawn up and notarized. It was a brief letter that basically supplied his name, my name and my future husband's name and my daughter's of course. In it he stated that he was fully aware and amenable to the fact that Alli would be living in the USA with me and her new step-father, had his permission to travel freely but that my ex would retain vistation right as agreed "by mutual consent". Gave his address and phone number as well as ours, signed it and had the notary sign, date and put a red seal on it.

I have used this letter for crossing the border (back and forth for 3 years now), added a copy of it with my adjustment of status application when I applied and never had a single problem with it.

I say get a letter notarized if you can. :yes:

I believe passport Canada has a example letter they use for parental permission.

*January 24 2006 - mailed in I129-F petition

*January 25 2006 - I129-F received at CSC

*January 30 2006 - packet returned.....arggggggggg we forgot one signature!!

*January 31 2006 - sent I129-F back to the CSC, hope we did not forget anything else

*February 1 2006 - I129-F received at CSC again

*February 3 2006 - NOA1

*April 20 2006 - NOA2!!!!!

*April 24 2006 - Touched!

*May 15 2006 - NVC received petition today!

*May 17 2006 - Case left NVC today!!

*May 30 2006 - Received Packet 3 from Vancouver!

*May 30 2006 - Faxed back Packet 3!!

*June 6 2006 - Received packet 4!

*June 20 2006 - Medical in Saskatoon

*June 28 2006 - Interview in Vancouver!!

I had my lawyer write up a letter stating that I had my ex's permission to move our son to the US.

Then my ex had to go in and sign it. That was good enough for my interview in Montreal.

10 year GC Approved - APRIL 16th ,2009 - Peggy and Jonathan's......

Still waiting for our cards...Had to file I-90 as they sent them to the wrong address.

March 9th, 2010, Received GC that has been lost in the mail for 10 months. Still waiting for my son's that is lost as well.

Filed Waiver for my son's 10 year GC and it was approved. He finally received his GC after its been missing for 2 years.

Thanking God this is over for 10 years.

Many lawyers offices will notarize a letter for around $10. Just call around and ask. Good luck
