Hi guys,

My wife got two I-512L documents (authorization for travel). Came here on K1 - now the I485 is in process.

Where do we need to present this first time to get a stamp or something - when we leave US or just when we come back?

Your AP will be stamped by the POE when you use it the first time I believe.

You got two copies, is only one stamped? I had a friend with a similar issue a while back. She was told that the stamped one is the one she needs to use, the other is just a copy, minus the stamp if that's the case with yours as well.

Someone else may come along with more info on it for you.

When she leaves the U.S. for the first time, she should have both of those copies with her. She should also (this goes for everywhere) carry a copy of your marriage certificate. When she seeks to re-enter the U.S., she will present both I-512L forms to the CBP agent, who will process them and (it's hoped) permit re-entry. CBP will keep one of the forms and give the other back to your wife, who should hang on to it for whatever future use is needed until she gets her green card. Two I-512L forms the first time, one form thereafter.

Ideally, you should be with your wife when she FIRST seeks to re-enter the U.S. -- and remember that she will do well indeed to carry the marriage certificate with her! It may well be asked for at POE, and it's good to have if a Federal agent should stop her anywhere else.

My understanting is that she will use (or be asked)for AS only when she will seek re-entry in the US and not when she leaves US. Is that correct? As you seggested to be with her at POE it happens that we'll be traveling toghether.
