Filing the Waiver

Can somebody who filed a waiver on the spot (at the interview) tell me how the process goes? From what I gather, they hand you a paper that says you're eligible, you pay the fee and drop off the waiver packet.

Is that about it?

The waiver packet is something you should have prepared before the interview. It is intensive and comprehensive. It should not be done 'on the spot'. The packet itself may be able to be submitted at the time of the interview denial, but that is consulate specific. Some require a separate appointment to turn in the packet.

you'll need to show how you, the USC will incure extreme hardship if your spouse is not able to join you in the US and why you cannot move to Ireland.

We have the entire packet ready, hardship letters & all. I do know that Dublin takes them on the day of the interview, and they can make a recommendation to London, but we will have to wait for adjudication.

I was just hoping that we could get an idea of how the actual filing works - I hope somebody at the embassy will be kind enough to direct my husband as far as where to pay the fee & leave the packet.

I'm sorry, I misunderstood the question. If you're sure they are accepted on the same day then I'm sure that they will direct him as to where to go and what to do.

Well, the waiver was needed.

My attorney said we could pay the fee in US dollars, but the embassy would not accept cash.

They need a bank draft. They took the waiver packet & said to send in the payment.

My husband has no bank account and has the cash in US dollars in Ireland.

Any suggestions on how I'm going to pay the waiver fee? I can get a bank draft & send it over, but can anybody think of a way somebody without an account can get a bank draft in Ireland in USD??

I've searched all over the net and can't find anything other than "you can pay in cash in USD," but that turned out to be untrue.

julie why don't you get a draft from here and send it overnight ( there is an international cashier's check if you go to your bank they will show you which one )

or he can get the us dollars exchange in ireland and go to a bank and get a cashiers check in ireland bank ,, he does not have to have an account to get a draft but i don't know if that works in ireland , normally here what we do is you can get a draft by paying cash it is just extra if you don't have a special kind of account which will allow you to get it for free, but to get a draft you don't necessary have to have an account , so having say that i think the best thing to find out is if he can get a draft with out having an account there? ask him just to go to any bank and tell them the situation , or do it from here and overnight pm if you need more info.

Great ,,, do what the embassy said , make it payable to "embassy dublin " . Home land security is mostly the uscis and nvc stuff,,

A bank draft is the same as " a cashier's check , it works perfectly internationally and the funds are garanteed ,, so when you send him make a copy of it and make sure you keep the copy part with you , so incase any thing happenes you can put a stop payment on it . but since you gonna send it though insured in ups. it should be fine . overnight ofcourse.

A "certified" check is one of your checks that the bank has verified the funds on and has stamped it , this may not be accepted in ireland , because of routing number and other issues so my recommendation is " cashier's check , draft check, all is the same.

JustJ - I'm so sorry for your denial. Was it denied due to the CIMT or the failure to disclose it on the customs forms when visiting?
