Hi there. My fiancee the US has just called the US embassy in the US to enquire about my appointment letter for my interview here in the UK, however, they say they received my checklist at the embassy in London, but not the accompanying material. What accompanying material? What did I need to send with the checklist? I thought all my gathered documents were to be taken along by myself to the interview! I may have misread something, or overlooked something. The woman my fiancee didn't seem even too sure about what I had to send, but said something about a 156 or 156K? Glad my fiancee called, else they may have never called to say I have done something wrong!

Thank you!

Martin & Shawnie

Interview Result : Disastrous.

Only realised on the day that a full birth certificate was needed. My passport was too damaged, in the opinion of the interviewing officer (although it wasn't really that damaged at all!). Was told I needed to supply an I-134, completed by my fiancee (even though the embassy guidance notes specifically advises that K-1 applicants do not have to do this). Was told that I needed to supply my fiancee's tax return paperwork for year ending 2008 (even though K-1 applicants are not advised of this at all prior to interview!)

You were suppose to send in the forms with the checklist, these forms comprise Packet-3.

These forms (for me) included the following:-

a) DS-230 (Part-1)

B) DS-156

c) DS-156K

d) DS-160 (online application, please verify for the UK consulate).

e) Confirmation receipt from the DS-160 (Bar code).

The other documents have to be presented at the interview but these forms have to be sent in with the checklist in order for the US consulate to process your case further. I hope this helps !!!

The above list is not correct for the UK consulate. From the UK Embassy info page (link at the top of the page)

http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/inde...&cty=London

Used to be called 'Packet three', cause they send you forms etc through the mail. Now it is just a letter containing a link of where to download all the forms and the IV-15 check-list http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_new/visa/iv/iv_15.html.

The letter also provides a link on how to book your medical http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_new/visa/iv/medexam.html.

The forms that require downloading and filling in are:

DS-230-I Part I Signed

DS-156 x2 (Fill out online to generate barcode http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_new/visa/...electronic.html - Do not sign) (Not necessary for CR1/IR1)

DS-156K x2(Do not sign)(Not necessary for CR1/IR1)

DS-157 x2 (Not necessary for CR1/IR1)

The forms above need to be sent back in order for an interview to be assigned. You do not need to attach pictures or documents. These are taken with you to the embassy for your interview.

Insider tips:

You MUST have your medical scheduled (if not complete) before the interview. London has recently changed policies and if you don't have your medical complete before the interview they will reschedule you. It appears during a transition phase, scheduling is sufficient, but who knows how long that grace period is.

Secondly, the I134, contrary to VJ example forms (for UK only, so far as I know) should have "DO INTEND" to provide specific contributions checked, but a similarly vague statement about what those are is sufficient. Do intend + specific contributions should be used for cosponsors.

Thanks all! Just re-read over my paperwork and I see where I went wrong. Ambiguity runs riot throughout this whole process.

The visa checklist reads:

'Please do not mail any documents to the embassy. You will be required to furnish all documents on the day of your interview'.

All I sent was the checklist and the IV-15!

That's what I read originally. But, in fact, I DO need to mail documents, well, 'forms' to the embassy! I guess it's easy to mix up the meanings of the words 'forms' and 'documents'. They're just pieces of paper!

Mailed 'forms' today recorded. Embassy will have them by 1pm tomorrow. Wonder if I am still in with a good chance of a december interview?

I have everything now, police cert, affadavit of support, and had my medical. Just need that appointment letter now!

Thank you

Martin
