experience counts for nothing if one isn't situationally aware and becomes complacent. the badge, uniform, and gun has very little bearing on someone intending to ambush you. cops have to stay on their toes all the time.

and yes, that about being situationally aware and not becoming complacent has bearing on someone with a cch. otherwise, someone could take their gun away from them. and that happens to cops too.

as for what guns do - yes, they can kill. and yes, they can also deter a criminal without a shot being fired. most only focus on the first part of what they can do.

it's your right to have one, but if you don't want to, no one will make you get one. i on the other hand have issue with people's concept that guns are not a right, that i should not have one if i so chose.

Didn't realize we lived in a third world country where one should have to look over their shoulders 24/7.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

The four officers had decades of experience between them, were well armed, and may have actually gotten off a shot on the perpetrator that hit him. I don't think Joe Smoe and his pocket Smith & Wesson would do much if any better in the same or similar circumstances.

Sad truth is, guns primary purpose is for killing. Guns do this very well.

They are not safe, nor is anyone truly safer by so many having guns. Clearly this moron was not deterred by the officers he shot being armed, nor was he deterred by the fact someone else in or around the coffee shop might be armed.

I hold those who support these gun laws equally responsible. The blood is on their hands.

They are no different to those who cheer on Al Qaeda killing women and children. What difference is there really? In their mind, it's their right to do what they do. Are they not simply forming their own 'militia'? Killing people in order to overthrow the governments they disagree with.

If only the police officers had been armed, they could have defended themselves from this horrific gun violence...

as said in another thread, situational awareness plays a key role too. being armed means nothing if one isn't paying attention to what's going on around them.

Never seizes to amaze me that every gun toting Charles erroneously assumes they would pull out their gun and kill anyone who tries to rob them. Wrong! By the time you even think of getting your gun out, if they're as smart and fast as me, they would already have a barrel at your head and your spouse's head ready to fire.

Moral of the story, ensure the bad guys don't have guns. This John Wayne / Dirty Harry world is in the movies.

you do know what situational awareness is, don't you? it's the ability to see trouble coming. if you are paying attention, people just don't magically appear next to you with a gun to your head. except maybe in australia....

Correction, in every other first world country. Maybe you need to be cautious in other countries south of the border but certainly not in most first world countries.

I'm wearing my high heel boots and am in a bad mood... so that copfvck should be afraid of bumping into me. :hehe:

In all seriousness, I am canceling my usual trip to Trader Joe's today. I'm bold, but not stupid.

Strange considering Germany ranks 125th for homicides rates, while the US is 48th. Highest amongst all other first world countries.
