Montreal CR-1 Interview- what to bring???

We have our CR-1 interview in Montreal on Dec 21. I'm a little confused about the requirements, after reading the instructions. I'd like to know what to bring as the instructions don't seem clear-in one place it says to bring originals to the interview. However I've already submitted all original copies of my birth certificate, marriage certificate, police certificate, etc. to the NVC and that is marked on the checklist. Do I need to get extra originals for the interview? (Which would require a lot of hassle, an extra police check, etc...)

Also for the CR-1 do you need to bring photos and other proof of relationship or is that just for the fiance visa.

And can my husband come to the interview with me.

I wouldn't want to travel all that way only to find something is missing.

Thanks for your help!

Bring copies just in case. Better to be over prepared.

Also for the CR-1 do you need to bring photos and other proof of relationship or is that just for the fiance visa.

I would suggest to bring evidence of your relationship as you never know what will happen. Also, you should bring 2 passport style photos.

And can my husband come to the interview with me.

Yes.

I wouldn't want to travel all that way only to find something is missing.

Thanks for your help!

Hi and welcome :)

The letter used to say to bring originals unless you have already submitted them to NVC. But yes, Mal is correct.

The only other thing you might want to bring, if you only submitted 1 years tax returns to NVC, bring the other 2 to the interview.

Don't forget your passport pictures and X-presspost envelope.

We brought evidence like pictures, e-mails, phone records and it was all ignored.

Good luck.

Hey Homefry!

Enquiring minds want to k now... how long did you wait for your interview? Like, what date did you finish at the NVC?

As you might now, us canadian cr/ir1s are waiting forever for an interview and your info would greatly be appreciated.

Oh and when did you get your interview assigned? really recently? Just want to know as if you did, it could mean that maybe more of us might get a date soon-ish.

Thanks a lot and good luck and congratulations!

Like everyone else stated!! Ensure u bring that envelope, as they NO longer issue you the visa that day or next!!! U can always ask though, but they will prob say NO,lol but it is near xmas. And be prepared for the visa to take a bit longer to arrive via mail, as it is xmas!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Much like Mal said, I brought extra copies of the original documents, but not an entire new set of originals. Your interview letter should state which documents they already have and will indicate if you need originals for anything. At the interview, they will give you back the ones you sent to the NVC.

We brought photos, but he didn't look at any of them. However, I would bring a few just in case.

Yes, your spouse can go in!

Hi Trailmix, I'm wondering why we would need to bring a tax return, and do you mean mine or my (American) husband's? I don't remember ever submitting one, but maybe my husband did. As I'm not planning to quit my job in Canada at least in the next year- I'm going to travel over the border for work- I can support myself so perhaps I should bring proof of that?

She meant copies of the petitioner's tax return - whatever was submitted with the I864.

We sent all our missing documents in on July 8, shortly after that we called and they said we were approved and just waiting for an interview. We didn't hear back until Nov 2, when we got the appointment letter for the Dec 21 interview. It was a long, agonizing wait. Hope yours comes soon!

They like to keep you guessing!

Which Canada Post Expresspost mailer to take with you to the interview

In purchasing Xpresspost mailers at Canada Post, please note the following:

• The mailer should be the 314 mm x 394 mm size (12 inches by 15 inches)

• For return addresses in Quebec and Ontario, you may use a “Regional” Xpresspost mailer. All other addresses require a “National” Xpresspost mailer.

• The Xpresspost envelope(s) must be prepaid. The price will vary according to the mailing destination. Be sure to mention your return address to Canada Post staff.

• Address the envelope(s) to an address inside Canada. We cannot send completed visas to addresses outside Canada, including the United States. You must use the visa to enter the United States from outside of the United States.

• Mark the mailing label “signature required” to ensure that someone at the destination address has to sign for the envelope. This will ensure that your passport and visa, which are valuable documents, will not be left unattended.
