Motivation is the art of getting people to do what you want them to do because they want to do it.

~ Eisenhower

"Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes that you can do these things. Among them are a few Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or businessman from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid."

President Dwight D. Eisenhower, 1952

He musta been a weak-assed RINO. Even if he did defeat the Nazis

The Republican Party has lost its way. Hopefully, reasonably minded pragmatists who recognize that government isn't the enemy, but a necessary partner to individual liberty, will bring the GOP back to its golden age.

How about both parties work together for a change to do good things for us?

Perhaps if you knew someone it would help, you might feel differently. Of course someone in your position wouldn't associate with people like that, but just think about it for a moment or two. My tax dollars have gone to Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, etc etc etc. How much aid have we provided around the world since WWII? How many loans? How much in rebuilding other countries devastated by war? I have no problem with my money being spent on my home soil to help American people that need it. Not to pay for abortions or illegal aliens, but to help citizens and legal immigrants alike.

Multiple wrongs don't make a right, spook. The government, having no means of production of it's own, other than the ability to tax and to print money, has induced its citizens a means to justify looting some to encourage dependency on it. No matter where you are on the economic rung, this idea should be abhorant as an antithesis of liberty and property rights. Resentment is not the sole refuge of the have nots, but also of the haves who possess more means to express it.

It is foolish to think that this bill is intended to help anyone other than those who wish to expand their power at our expense.

There are some good and noble public servants on both sides of the aisle who are trying to do just that.

They are few and far between unfortunately, but they do exist.

Bipartisanship is good, but partisanship is also a necessary part of our political process. Where it becomes problematic is when either party obstructs debate or filibusters an up-or-down vote on key legislation.

Who among you knows what is in the Senate bill?

I'm sure you're the only person on the planet that has read it.

Compromise is necessary at times, just as in marriage and every other aspect of life.

But you don't mind the hundreds of billions that have been spent on wars?

I never said I like wars. I hear you saying that bad decisions deserve more bad decisions, no?

All decisions others make on your behalf are bad if you don't approve of them. But they might be good for someone else.

Wars must be good for someone else, too. Still, that doesn't make this kind of health care reform good for anyone. It's easy to tell you don't know what's in this bill or you wouldn't be so hot for it.

So Medicare was proven to be actually more costly and inefficient than private insurance awhile back so we should follow that and go complete health care for all? Too funny.

Too funny that you got it all wrong. What is proven is that Medicare provides better service, less bureaucracy and better cost containment than PHI. If you have evidence to the contrary, please feel free to share it here.

It isn't but is set to be if the status quo remains. This is what the GOP advocates - the status quo. The only cuts that should happen are waste and fraud - there's plenty of it. Recent report had that number at 40+ billion / year. Add it up and you have your 500 billion in savings overa decade. No cuts in benefits have been proposed despite the false claims by the GOP to the contrary.

The truth is the Republicans want President Obama to fail & this is just part of their plan. Passing a bipartisan healthcare bill would be contrary to the Republican's goal of getting back into the whitehouse in 2012 so it doesn't matter what the bill looks like.

Like I said before the Democrats need to unite their party because the Republicans are definitely united to oppose anything & everything Obama tries to do. Bush was a failure & the Republicans want Obama to fail too. This is the ugly side of democracy... constant finger pointing & squabbling vs. compromising to get the job done.
