There's some great advice here already -- volunteering is excellent to get you out of the house and meet people, while also building a network of people to use as job references. Learning to drive is pretty essential to life in most of the U.S., so see if your husband, family friend, or neighbor can teach you. Also, you might look into some self-study during your time before work authorization to help you on your resume. There are many books, online courses, etc. that can give you a skillful edge in a very difficult economy while also helping to boost your confidence.

You could also look into Meetup.com to find groups in your area to join and meet new friends.

Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Gosh, my then 13 year old daughter was that was when she first came here, no friends, strange country, new language, she was depressed. Did get her, her very own computer so she could chat with her friends. She's 20 now, very American, going to college, lots of friends, did go to her home country last year, says it sucks and never wants to go back.

As I was working, my wife did a lot of volunteer work when she first came here, then college courses, has a very good paying job, met at least a dozen people from her home country, but most important, she had and has me. We go back to her home country once a year, going back next week as a matter of fact. But she is glad to come back home. This is there home, now.

It does take time to adjust, but keep yourself busy.
