I'm planning my first three month visit to Minnesota (where my partner is originally from) and we've been joking back and forth about my teaching the natives the enormous health benefits of poutine, wearing head to toe 'Canada' themed clothing and speaking French as often as possible..

It has become a bit of a competition to find new outrageously Canadian ways to irritate Americans.

Any suggestions?

(Obv 'The war of 1812' and ' "free" healthcare' are tossed around liberally. :) )

I'm a Canadain living in Minnesota - I mention to my friends here that it is similar to a Rissian being sent to Siberia.

- Offer to teach them to speak properly and complete thier sentences...Want to come with ?????? With what/who...

- Bring a bottle of ketchup and tell them you heard they really enjoy spicing up their hotdish. Make sure to tell them you got the mild kind.

- Tell them you heard the Viking were planning on joining the CFL so they would have at least a slim chance of winning

- Argue about "Canadian Bacon".....Our bacom in Canada is in long strips just like yours. Quit trying to pass off round slices of ham as bacon.

- Pull up to a Caribou or Starbucks drive through and ask for a double-double. Confuses the hell out of them.

LPR since 2003 and will be applying for Naturalization soon. Currently working on I-130 for my son.

Or you could REALLY blow them out of the water, and not live up to the stereotypes and tell them the truth. That for the most part, we're a lot like them. That'd probably be even funnier, since they'd probably be even MORE confused. :|

What I always joke about doing with my fiancee whenever I visit her is to have her act as interpreter as she lived in Canada for two years.... it would go like this

ME: Hey how you doing eh?

HER: He wants to know how you're doing...

ME: Good eh!

HER: He says that's good...

and just continue with it for as long as possible....

we've yet to do it, but one of these trips I will!

That's hilarious!!!

Funny enough, lots of people here in Saint Louis, and sometimes south of here, ask me where I'm from. Before I can say, they respond... " Minnesota? Wisconsin?"

Don't forget to raise your voice pitch at the end of every statement and question to sound like everything you say is a question.

(I got the pleasure of hearing this on the phone once again trying to get some customer support for a christmas gift for my brother and had to control myself from laughing out loud at the poor guy)...

I'm just a wanderer in the desert winds...

Yes. We all look like Terrance and Phillip!

- Pull up to a Caribou or Starbucks drive through and ask for a double-double. Confuses the hell out of them.

Now we're talking!

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Oh lordy the number of times my fiance has complained about this!! He'll still eat it, but he complains about it. "If that's ham, then I'm American."
