today i went to the SSA to change my name on my card from my Maiden to my new Married name. i filed for my AOS in July 09, case has been transferred twice, once to California and then again back to NBC.So i guess im now waiting to hear if i will need an interview, i tried calling today to see how its going but because the last receipt date is only mid Oct, the recorded message said i cant make enquiries until 180 days have past. At the SSA they told me that my married name isnt in the system yet, even though my letters addressed to me from the USCIS are in my married name. they took my details anyway and said they will keep on trying so i guess i'll keep waiting and waiting. is anyone else having similar problems?? on another note now im busy looking for a job but that too is going slow, but ahh well i'll keep trying to be positive it cant get much worse than it already is ! or can it?? lol

As far as the name change problem goes, I'm going through the same thing right now. When I went to change my SSN into my married name I was told they needed to manually verify my identity with immigrations because my name was in their database under my old maiden name still. Even though I have an EAD and other correspondence from USCIS in my married name, they said there is nothing they can do about it. It took about 3 weeks for me to get the new card.

Now I'm trying to get a state drivers license and I'm encountering the same problem yet again. When they ran my name through their immigrant verification system I did not pass .Since I'm still under there in my maiden name my immigration documents and their system did not "match" meaning they could not issue me a license. After the inquiries they still have not changed it. I had to go down to a special S.A.V.E government office and show them my documentation so they could verify their authenticity. Now I have to wait another 2-9 weeks to hear back from them before I can apply for a license.

Hopefully you don't have an ongoing problem with it like I have!

 I've had moments where I've thought that as well. Immigration to Canada is so much easier in comparison. I think the woman at the DMV could have issued me a license, but I don't think she really understood the laws or what she was doing. Unfortunately after she tagged my name in the system as needing to have my immigration documentation manually verified, no other DMV would even try to help me without getting the S.A.V.E clearance document. So now I wait. Its weird that they wouldn't let you open a bank account with a drivers license!

As far as I know it is sitting at CSC gathering dust.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.
