Friends,

Thu and I have made a decision as to what we want to do in regards to our future plans together. We are not even close to being ready for the K-1. We need more time to develop our relationship and create memories with each other. For 2010, I plan to take 3 trips to VN. I plan to go in January, July and November. We plan to have our Dinh Hon on either the 2nd or 3rd trip. After the 3rd trip (4th meeting overall), we will decide if it is time to file for the K-1. This all depends on how our relationship evolves. As most of you know, Thu and I met through the services of a "paid" matchmaking agency in Singapore for our first meeting. This is one of THE biggest red flags to deal with for the HCMC Consulate. Even though this be extremely difficult to overcome, I do believe that the stronger our relationship becomes and the more we can prove it, the more ammunition we will have to deal with this red flag. If we decide to call it quits now because of this red flag, we will never know if it could have worked out or not. For now, all I care is about is experiencing love with Thu because love is what I was looking for to begin with. I don't even want to think about the K-1 right now. I may leave VJ for a few months to get away from it all and just focus on the love of my life, Thu. When the time is right, I will return to begin the process with your help I hope

Everyone here knows my opinion on this matter, I feel you fell into the horror stories and they scared the cuc out of you. It is good to get to know her better, and to address all your red flags, all dating websites you have to pay to be introduced to women on, and if your agency that you went to offers its services to more than just Americans, and/or if a woman went there looking for a man to meet, then it does not fall into the marriage broker category. I think there are many ways to do it differently, if you are planning so many trips, will you be able to afford to do the same next year? If not, then the consulate will possibly think you just dropped off and did not come back after our last visit. I would file sooner and use one trip just for the interview, have the dam hoi on the first or second trip and save the 3rd for the interview or maybe the 2nd for the interview, but any way you choose, good luck and god bless. i agree with your choice. of course, it the ideal world, having our so close would be best, but taking a step back is only going to result in good things for any relationship. you are at the beginning of a wonderful journey together. take every step firmly and confidently so that there is never a question or regret that what you both decide to do. i think if you rush into into- because i think you worry alot (like me) :-)- the next year will be absorbed in the process instead enjoying getting to know each other. its true that the CO can delay our case and our lives miserable, but when a case is genuine there is NOTHING that they can do to ultimately keep us from what we want.

Also from a more practical point of view, you and thu deserve the time to really get to know each other. That is something nothing but time can change, but the good thing is time will fly by before you know especially with all the trips you are planning.

keep looking for plane ticket sales! i check this page in June 2009 and was able to quickly capitalize on the Singapore Airline sale. Ticket was only $670 down from $1500 same time previous year.

I agree with your decision. Smart move. But to go off of what jeromebinh stated, your third trip can be for the interview. At that point, you will have proven your relationship through your original meeting and two additional trips to Vietnam.

Two week trips look better than one week trips, just so you know. Not easy to pull off, of course.

Save your pennies. Most people who get into these situations are average every day people with median level incomes or lower, so we don't have money to throw around. Watch ever penny you spend on yourself and save save save for the future. Not just you. Her too.
