HI!

I will be submitting my AOS next week but I have not applied for a Social security number yet because i wanted to wait after i get married so i dont have to change it again to my married name....

is it okay to submit my AOS application without my social security number?

If i do apply for a social security how long will it take for me to get my social security number? do i have to wait for my card to get the actual number? or will they be able to give it to me on that same day i apply?

Thanks!

Once you have successfully applied for your SSN, the SSN card will come in the mail in about 2 weeks.

i think in nessa's case it was almost 4 weeks after we applied for it.

i'd suggest you get down there to the ssn office asap and get things rolling. .

We submitted my wife's AOS before she had her SSN. After she got her EAD, she applied for the SSN. At her AOS interview, the IO asked her for her SSN and added it to her application. So, no worries.

If we had it to do over again, we would have applied for it when my wife's K-1 was still valid. If we had done that, she could have looked for work as soon as she had her EAD instead of having to wait another month to get her SSN.

I guess getting SSN depends where you live. I've got mine before our wedding, and it arrived after a week of applying. Then, I have my name changed after I received my EAD card. In less than, a week I already received a letter informing me that changes in my SSN.

But then, I guess, it's not necessary to have SSN for AOS. You can apply after you've get your EAD card.

Good Luck!
