Can I apply for colege grant if hubby signed I-864?

I'm not sure if this is a right spot for this topic, if not please feel free to move it...

I have green card for almost a year, recently I lost a job and was wondering if I could go back to school. Since the finances are really tight right now (hubby lost his job, too), I wanted to apply for a grant from our state workforce. Ofcourse hubby signed I-864 during the AOS process. Can I receive a grant or would he have to repay the money back to the state workforce? Any input will be much appreciated.

My husband (the immigrant) was laid off due to a plant closing and is receiving unemployment compensation. He has recently started school. He qualified for a federal grant, and the state Employment Security Commission (South Carolina) is also paying for some of his school expenses. He will not be required to repay these. Just our own experience.

You can apply for govt Grant, it's not consider Mean tested benefit, it's something you are doing to better yourself and the country. Grant is like the country is doing an investment into its future

Just simple example of a research i did back in College when people was talking down on folks getting financial aid.

High school graduate

Salary let say $10/hr

That same high school graduate get a govt grant

There's PELL, TAP, College work study programs. They go by different names depending on your state.

Let's say the govt invest $10,000 a year so after 4 years about $40,000 for your education. After you graduate

you get a job that pays you $20/hr.

Looking at the math

That $10/hour comes to about $20,800

That $20/hour $41,600

Now looking at the numbers again

The amount of taxes the Federal and State Govt will take from that $20/hr job is more than double what they will take on the $10.

And this is for the rest of your life, as such the ROI (Return on that investment) will be TENFOLD.
