When police responded to a Northeast Kansas City shooting Thursday night, the victim told officers he was walking down the street, heard a gunshot, then felt pain in his chin.

He was sent to a hospital, but soon placed under arrest.

Officers learned he had actually been shot — likely by one of his own accomplices — while attempting to rob a nearby house minutes earlier, according a police report.

The robbery victims told police it was about 6:30 p.m. when several people kicked in their door near East Seventh Street and Van Brunt Boulevard, wielded a gun and ordered them to the ground. They heard a loud “bang,” then everyone ran back out.

A witness saw the man who had been shot run into an alley. The other suspects escaped.

I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.
