There are not real facts in the Da Vinci code, at least not the book I read. It was easy going beach fiction with no requirement to think at all.

I found Dan Brown's writting style more offensive than the liberties he took with biblical history.

I find what was left out of the Bible much more interesting that what was included. The Gnostic Gospels, by Elaine Pagels, is required reading in most religious history courses.

Gnostic though is certainly amazing....I love its very 'high' spirituality...

The Da Vinci Code was such a massive seller that the book's success has created a lot of misinformation about the history its purported based on.

Saying that I never read the Da Vinci Code - though I did read Angels and Demons. From what I understand the Da Vinci Code recycles the same plot (i.e. it starts with a murder, a religiously motivated assassin on the loose and a paint by numbers treasure hunt around a major European city).

It was so OTT that I just couldn't take it seriously - and the author seriously expects someone to buy the idea that a person could jump from a helicopter in the middle of Rome, without a parachute, and manage to land in a river.

Also the Roger Mooresque sleazy ending - "you've never been to bed with a yoga instructor". Needed to take a shower afterwards.

His name is on the books, but I believe he and his wife actually do the writing.

i disagree, but that's cool. brown chose to blend too much fantasy ####### in his writings, but there is no doubt that freemasonry has connections to the catholic church, that opus dei is a crazy cult, that there is speculation about jesus have a child with magdalene and that this blood line still exists, and the whole roslyn church thing...

freemasonry...fascinating topic.

I also love how so many stories continue in the oral tradition, even though they were not included in the Christian Bibles, such as the conflict between Lucifer and Michael. The Prophecy with Christopher Walken is excellent, as well as the sequels.

Didn't Kurt Vonnegut have something to say about that? Or, was it Kilgore Trout?

I don't think there is any defending A View to a Kill. From Christopher Walken's effete gigolo villain to a Moore so old he not only dyes his hair but has stunt doubles standing in for any scene that isn't a close-up; and a particularly nasty sex scene he did with Grace Jones.

A lot of popular fiction is utter trash. Dan Brown isn't the worst by any means - but its amazing that his work gets all these leather bound illustrated editions.

I think it is reviled so much because of the level of interest it garnered. If it had sold a few hundred thousand and was a movie of the week, certainly nobody would have cared as much. It's a steaming ####### of a book, but entertaining none the less.
