Which one should I file 1st? (I think most folks apply for the SS# first.)

...should I file 485 prior to apply for SS#? Please help.

Applying for an SS Card/# has no connection with whether you have/have-not yet filed the AOS/I-485 'package.' You don't need an SS# to file the AOS, nor need to have/have-not yet filed AOS to get an SS#. (If that makes sense.)

  • For the SS Card, you need a valid I-94 (with at least 14 days left before it expires) and a valid/proper I.D.
  • For AOS, you need a marriage certificate, but don't need a SS#.

Since you've already applied for the SS#, 4 Weeks isn't terribly unusual to be waiting (it's about on the long side of what is typical).

SSn is not needed for the AOS. What did you do wromng that it takes so long to get an SSN? My wife had hers the business day after she arrived. Did you let a dumb@ss SS clerk get the best of you?

I would go back to the SS office that you filed at. My SS office called me because they were unsure as to when my husband's SS# would come through since they entered him as an F1 student visa holder at his POE rather than a K-1 visa holder. Despite that mix-up, we had his card in the mail within 2.5 weeks I believe. They should have given you a reference number or something when you left their office so that if you had troubles/concerns, they could locate the problem quickly. You may need that number, but if you don't have it, just go back to the office and see if you can get any answers because it really should not take this long for your wife's card to arrive...Maybe they got the address wrong??? Who knows...

We met in October 2007 and our immigration journey started in July 2008 when we filed for the I-129F Fiance Visa petition.

I stopped by the SS office to find out what's going on, found the lady that help me 7 weeks ago, she swap the 1st and last name around that is why when the ss office tried to confirm with USCIS and always pending. but now should be all resolved, let's wait for 2 weeks see what happen?

Still, get your AOS done. It's a much longer process (generally ;) )so the sooner you start it the better. You do not need SS# for this.
