I would like to hear from anyone who has moved a household from western Canada to the USA.

I was wondering about moving companies/moving yourself in rented truck/customs papers required.

Thank you for you time.

I priced a few moving companies, cheapest way for me was to do it myself with Uhaul. We decided to just leave my stuff and we are going back up with a trailer after AOS. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Hi Karen,

We also used ABF Upack - we used a relocube to move our stuff to Florida and used a partial truck load to move our stuff back.

Cost from Calgary to Central Florida for the relocube was about $ 2200 - from Central Florida to Calgary - about $ 3000. If you do get a quote from them (which you can request online) just keep in mind that all their quotes are in U.S. dollars.

Also, Upack doesn't service all areas, so that might not be an option.

Here are 2 threads from the Canada forum that should help you as well:

Moving: Canada to USA. What company did u use to ship ur stuff?, Re: Shipping belongings without you (not truck rentals)

those who are moving to the states or already moved..., how did you get all your stuff over here???

Oh and as for forms, if you send the stuff via a shipping company, you will need to fill out the 3299 - if you take the stuff yourself, you just need an itemized list with you.

Wow, thank you everyone for the great responses. I have tons of information to research now. It is sure nice to know that I am getting first hand information from people that have actually used the movers/companies.

Thanks again

Karen
