A thread for all the news related to the Mexican Drug War...

Here is the real headline which is purposely left out of the "American" version of the story: "La última muerte violenta en México: colgado de un puente con los genitales en la boca" .... That translates to "The most recent violent death in Mexico: Hung from a bridge with his genitalia inside his mouth"... There is no mention of the state official's balls being cut off and placed in his mouth in the following story. You also won't get the pictures from the American media (but it is unheard of NOT to post the pictures in the Mexican press). Here is story number 1, viewer discretion is advised...

Mutilated body of Mexican driver's license official found hanging from bridge in Tijuana

Associated Press Last update: October 9, 2009 - 10:58 PM

TIJUANA, Mexico -

The mutilated body of a state official who authorities said was suspected of giving fake driver's licenses to drug gang members was found hanging from a bridge Friday in the Mexican border city of Tijuana. Relatives identified the man as Rogelio Sanchez, a Baja California state official in charge of driver's licenses, said Prisma Perez, a spokeswoman for the state Attorney General's Office. Sanchez, 44, was kidnapped Wednesday as he left his home in Tijuana.

"The investigation indicates he had been giving licenses to organized crime," Perez said.

His body was found hanging from the Morelio bridge at 5:30 a.m. in an industrial zone of Tijuana, just as factory workers were beginning to arrive for work.

Mexico's brutal drug gangs often dump mutilated victims in public places.

Gang violence has killed more than 13,800 people since President Felipe Calderon launched a nationwide crackdown on drug cartels in December 2006. Many have been police and other government officials who are often attacked near their homes or inside their cars.

Calderon has acknowledged that rampant corruption is a major obstacle in his fight against drug trafficking. Hundreds of police — and many top-level government officials — have been fired or arrested for suspected ties to cartels under the Calderon government.

Tijuana, across the border from San Diego, is one of Mexico's most violent cities and the center of a bloody battle between the Arellano Felix cartel and a gang reputedly led by Teodoro Garcia Simental.

Also Friday, police in the Pacific coast state of Guerrero reported finding the bodies of 10 men, all apparently shot to death. Signs left next to the bodies read: "This is what is going to happen to all thieves and extortionists. You know what you're getting into. Respectfully, the Boss of Bosses."

In a statement, the Guerrero state Public Safety Department did not offer any immediate explanation of the message or information on the victims.

Most of the bodies were bound and dumped on roadsides. Several had their heads bound in packing tape. Police were alerted to the bodies by a series of telephone tips.

Officials in the western state of Jalisco said four suspects were killed and 17 arrested Friday in an hours-long gun battle between members of a criminal gang and soldiers and police in a rural part of the state.

The state attorney general's office said the clash began when the suspects were detected by police and took cover on a hillside.

Authorities called in police helicopters to fight the suspects, who fired at the aircraft and hit one. A Mexican army helicopter gunship was then called in. One soldier and a police officer were wounded in the battle.

Prosecutors said they seized grenades and other weapons.

Later in the day, authorities in northern Chihuahua state reported that gunmen killed a soldier in an attack on army vehicles near the hamlet of Colonia LeBaron on Thursday. Five men and seven women were detained.

The army has been patrolling the area since anti-crime activist Benjamin LeBaron and a neighbor were slain there July 7.

Keep in mind the following links are on the front page of the 12/11 news. Can you imagine a picture like this on the front cover of the New York Times? The cartel members dropped off the 4 murder victims body parts in front of a high school!!! It looks like many body parts were dumped with no bag, just lying in the open for all to see.

Here is the front page of the news. Viewer discretion strongly advised. You have been warned!

Notice how the newspaper editors splatter blood (fake blood) all over the headline and outline the black letters in red. I guess it gives it a more dramatic effect.

Imagine if newspaper editors did that here. People would be outraged that newspapers were "celebrating" the criminals' deaths.

They also made Obama very "light". I wonder if this was done purposely or just the result of a bad quality photo...

Official: Top Mexican Drug Lord Killed in Clash

Thursday, December 17, 2009

MEXICO CITY — One of the most wanted figures in the drug war was killed in a shootout with the Mexican navy Wednesday, an official said.

Arturo Beltran Leyva and three members of his drug cartel died in the gunbattle in a gated, upscale apartment complex in Cuernavaca, just south of Mexico City. A fifth suspect committed suicide during the shootout, said the official, who under navy rules could not give his name.

One sailor was injured, he said.

Beltran Levya, known as the "boss of bosses," was one of four brothers who split from the Sinaloa cartel several years ago and aligned themselves with Los Zetas, a group of former soldiers hired by the Gulf Cartel as hit men.

That split is believed to have fueled much of the bloodshed across Mexico, where more than 14,000 people have been killed in the past three years.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration says the Beltran Leyva cartel is a key organization in importing and distributing tons of cocaine in the United States, as well as large quantities of heroin.

The Mexican government lists Arturo Beltran Leyva as one its 24 most-wanted drug lords and had offered a $2.1 million reward for his capture.

The navy official said more than 200 sailors raided the apartment complex as part of a crackdown on the Beltran Leyva cartel in central Mexico. The raid sparked a gunbattle that lasted nearly two hours.

The raid followed another on a party Friday in the nearby town of Tepoztlan, in which sailors detained Ramon Ayala, a Texas-based norteno singer, and 11 alleged Beltran Leyva members

Factbox: Mexico's top drug traffickers

January 14, 2010 - Reuters

Mexico's drug cartels are multi-billion dollar businesses run like major corporations with operations from Mexico to West Africa and

Italy. They have grown into some of the most lucrative criminal enterprises ever. Here are some facts on the top traffickers:

* Joaquin "Shorty" Guzman, the head of the powerful Sinaloa cartel, escaped from a top security prison in a laundry van in 2001. At just

5 feet tall, Guzman started a turf war against rival cartels in 2005. He is Mexico's most-wanted man, but a U.S. anti-drug official has

described him as "almost untouchable." Police say he may have had plastic surgery. He is rumored to change cell phones after

every conversation.

* Ismael Zambada, Guzman's right-hand man, has been a top trafficker for three decades and has never been captured. At 62, he is

considered a sharp businessman and negotiator. A former farmer from Sinaloa state, he is believed to launder drug profits through a

large milk company, real estate holdings and a bus line. Zambada has a $5 million bounty on his head in the United States.

* Heriberto "The Executioner" Lazcano is head of the Gulf cartel's armed wing, the Zetas. Once a member of Mexico's elite special

forces, Lazcano switched sides in the late 1990s to join the Gulf cartel. Lazcano is armed with a huge arsenal of grenades, automatic

weapons and even rocket launchers. He is feared for his brutality, beheading rivals, and is rumored to use big cats to scare

victims or dispose of their bodies.

* Ezequiel Cardenas, brother of extradited former Gulf cartel leader Osiel, rose in importance after his brother's extradition in 2007 to

Texas.

* Vicente Carrillo Fuentes is the long-time head of the Juarez cartel over the border from El Paso, Texas. Brother of drug lord Amado

Carrillo Fuentes, who flew airliners full of Colombian cocaine into Mexico in the 1970s, Vicente took over the cartel after Amado's

death during a clandestine plastic surgery operation.

* Evangelical Christian Nazario Moreno, who calls himself "The Craziest One," leads "La Familia" (The Family), a cartel in the western

state of Michoacan. He preaches Bible scripture mixed with self-help slogans to gang members and has tried to promote a

mystique unique among Mexican gangs by claiming to protect the local population.

* Fernando Sanchez Arellano is fighting for control of the weakened Arellano Felix cartel in Tijuana, across the border from San Diego.

A nephew of the Arellano Felix brothers who shipped tonnes of cocaine into California in the 1990s, Fernando has emerged as leader

after other brothers were arrested and one was killed in a shootout with police. He has the help of his accountant aunt Enedina

Arellano Felix.
