Hey all,

so I'm just getting ready to book our medical, and I just told my wife this morning that her and my son would have to go get their flu shots (regular seasonal shots-NOT H1N1) in order to get the medical done. The woking medical clinic (vancouver) website states that if your medical is between oct-feb that you have to have your influenza shots.

Here's the issue-- The BC health authority just told me that you CANNOT get flu shots right now until Jan 2010. So I've just emailed the woking medical clinic asking about this, if they're going to be ####### about the flu shots or what, but has anyone else got any info on the current medical/flu shot deal?

I was under the impression that the flu shot was only required for those aged 50+. Is this another case of the Canadian consulates making their own judgments when it comes to the immunization requirements (like with Gardasil)?

If you go on the clinic website www.wokingmedical.com and click on the 'vaccinations' link, it shows you the required shots by age, and the flu shots are required for all kids under 6. Funny thing though, I thought my wife had to get one too, but after looking at it again right now, it's actually not required between the ages of 7-49. So I guess only my son is required to get it.

what's the current average time between submitting P3 and getting an interview? Did you submit P3 yet?

I needed additional information for my medical, and the US Panel Physician in Toronto held my file until I was able to produce the additional information. I submitted P3 in July, my medical was in August, I am just picking up the final package now -- and I don't yet have an interview date.

My point is, it may be possible to do the whole medical except for the shot if it's not available, and then fax in the proof of vaccination once that's available. This so long as you aren't running the risk of not having the medical complete by interview date.

Looking in to my crystal ball, I would say that the response you are going to get is that it is not required right now. Sometimes we forget that the panel physicians are actually Doctors - not just USCIS operatives.

The Doctors at the clinic will know that the shots are not available and therefore they cannot advise them to have something that does not exist.

I wouldn't worry about it.

The wait time in Vancouver is only about 2 weeks, so that wouldn't really be an option.

I'm not superduper worried about it, like trails said the option to get it just isn't there, and I can't see them requiring the impossible(hmmm....there is still a shred of optimism in me..). Anyways, I'm just waiting for them to email me back, so I'll know for sure pretty quick. As for getting the shot later, my interview is on Nov 24 and the shot's not available until january, so that's that... I just wondered since all these november interviews were just scheduled if anyone else was running into this as well.

I have a little less than 4 months between P3 and interview. You should call DOS to see if you've got an interview.

we do have the same-ish timeline, but you're Vancouver.

See Montreal consulate thread.. I'm calling every day. It's so backed up.

I was under the impression that the I-130's I filed went straight to montreal anyways, didn't think it would make a difference if I filed there or montreal. Actually one would think you'd be faster filing in montreal because the I-130's wouldn't have to go anywhere.....interesting

so i got a reply from woking medical, doesn't really answer my question, but at least they were already aware of the change. Here's what they wrote:

"Hello this is a good question and we have asked the Consulate about this and are waiting to hear back from them. I would go ahead and schedule the appointments in a few months and hopefully we all will know more."

only problem is I'm scheduling our appointment this week....so now I wait for another reply.

I just looked at the Toronto website for the medical and it says flu shots are for 50+.

If I have to get one, I'll have to make him tell me I need it. Though, I'd prefer to not get pushed into another shot I dont want.
