"Liberal bias has become the single biggest distortion in modern Bible translations" - True or False?

That is so backwards! You're supposed to turn to your religion (and the religious guide - in this case the bible) to seek out how you should behave and run your life morally, not the other way around!!!

*facepalm*

They're gonna turn the Bible into something their true savior (Ayn Rand) would have been proud of :)

 lol

In my opinion the bible's principles are already conservative enough. How people choose to omit certain obvious biblical principles from their lives, while professing to be Christian, is a different issue.

I don't know why #7 made me chuckle the most. During Jesus' time, they were ruled by an unelected Roman Empire. A really mean empire that wasn't at all Christian. He never commanded anyone to overthrow the system but showed how to live in the midst of that kind of empire. If someone studies all of the words in the new testament that were said by Jesus(whether you believe he actually said it or not, but want to know what is He like in the bible writings), he was very "conservative" morally. He was very sacrificing and taught people to give, lay down their lives for others, but he wasn't a wimp or a free-love hippie. He said clear things about what you need to believe to be "saved". So that is pretty hardcore in some ways, which annoys people who don't like Christianity.

But these people wanting to fit the bible into their own agenda, I find it foolish. As for Bible versions...some people think only King James version is acceptable. but then how would people who don't know English or OLD English understand what they are reading? If someone wants to be really strict about it they need to learn Hebrew and Greek so they can study the oldest possible version. That is not reality for most people to learn those languages, so we need translations.

Great post, Stina. The NIV Bible is actually translated from earlier ancient text that was found long after the King James Version. It's just that some people think the 17th Century English is more proper than the 20th Century English in the NIV. Every Christian needs to keep in mind that all Bibles are one translation or another and they aren't always exact translations (as what happens with all language translations).

But shouldn't the translations be made in a manner that accurately captures Jesus's Wall Street background and occupation as a quantitative analyst?

That would require deleting a lot of his parables, but the modern day Pharisees are just like the ones back then...they hated when he spoke in parables.

This thread is uncomfortable because while its aim is surely to lampoon, it is based in a certain reality that some VJ members are very comfortable with already. Sends shivers down my spine, really.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Not at all. I think it's high time we accepted the reality that Jesus would have loved Wal Mart and ENRON.

Do you think he would have driven a Hummer or a Cadillac Escalade?

and Starbucks. Let's not forget Starbucks, please :sleepy:

I was at a Dunkins a few days ago where the employees wore tshirts saying "Friends don't let friends drink Starbucks". Jesus would have sued Dunkins straight into bankruptcy. It's a testament to how sinful our world is today that a tactic like that goes unpunished. Heck, sinners were even CHUCKLING at the tshirts. It was horrible, I tell you.

He would abide by free market principles as practiced by GOP conservatives. So whatever he'd buy, it would be American.

Neither, he has a different burrow for every day of the week. When he's cruising for chicks he uses Bosco.
