Hi, I'm new to this.

Both my fiancee and I are recent graduates and currently unemployed.

We met during grad school in the UK and I'm interested in applying for the K-1 visa to get him to the US.

I'm currently actively looking for work and hope to be employed soon, but of course with the current economy I am not very confident of when this will happen.

If I am unable to to find a co-sponsor, have no current income or income from the past three years (since I've been a student) that can show I'm 125% above the poverty level, is it advisable to begin the petition process? Is even considering a K-1 recommended at all because looks like I'm not going to meet the financial requirement at the moment or anytime soon?

Please advise, thank you!

i actually asked this same question pretty much, my boyfriend has a job he just doesn't make enough a year, but he has somebody who can sponsor him. if you don't make the required amount a year and don't find a sponsor unfortunately you won't be able to bring her to the US :( . You can pretty much get anybody to sponsor you (as i was told) whether it be a friend, mother, father, cousin etc etc. :)

unless you are 125% over the poverty line then there really is no point of filing for the k-1 because you wont even be able to fill out your I-134 form.

Go fo it.

You are 6 months from the interview when you file (2 months if it is VSC right now! ) and you may have a job by then. The past three years do not matter if you have a good job when you fill out the I-134. If not, you can get a co-sponsor OR 4 month extensions on the approved petition until you do have a job (or co-sponsor)

Look hard for a co-sponsor. The thing they are trying to prevent is adding someone to the population who is going to need to draw on public funds. Financial support is a requirement, whether it's through your income alone, or through combined income with your co-sponsor.

Good luck with your job search! They say the economy is getting better. Hopefully "they" know what they are talking about.

Review the I-864 (ya, I said I-864) and figure out if you have the right amount of assets to present.

If you don't, then find a co-sponser.

IMO, I'd file now, then scramble to get a job.

GOOD LUCK !

Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Can the co-sponsor be anyone?

I'm sort of in the same boat myself, well, I have no job at the moment. Been living off a trust fund I had since I was 2. Well, that's starting to run out now, got my applications in all over the place and hoping for a call back. I have mutual funds/stocks, a paid for home in my name and two vehicles. So I'm wondering if I need a cosponsor at all?
