so, I went to SS office just after a week of my arrival, It was a smooth process, I got my ss card after 9 days, after getting married. I went back to change my name into my married name. The guy gave me a letter but did not put a space in between my two first names, i told him it must have a space, he said he cant coz that is what was written on my I-194, to my horror, true enough, i didnt put a space or skipped a box between my two first names! then I told him, how come my first ss card was correct? it do have a space, the lady who processed my SS cardthe firs time, copied my name on my passport.

They should have informed me earlier so that i had rectified the matter with local USCIS sooner. I should have submitted our AOS papers before the end of September, instead I have to make an info pass appointment on Sept. 29. hopefully i'll be able to get the correct I-194 soon. my I-94 will expire on Oct. 31.

I'd go ahead and file the I-485 and just be sure your name is correct on the GC. When you get the GC go back to SSA with it.

thanks for the idea  . The thing is, i wanted my ss card under my married name before my I-194 reached its 76th day, so that when i get my EAD (under my married name) which normally released in a month or two, I can apply for a job and do not need to wait for my GC which can take up to 4 - 5 months or more.. does this makes sense? or can I change into my married name when I get my EAD? will ss office accept it even without the GC?

went to local USCIS, they said that my name on I-94 without a space will not be a problem. SS office was just making a big deal out of nothing. grrr. so, I will just go ahead and file my AOS then.

You will never need your SS card in this lifetime. All you need is the number on it. What is your time worth?

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.
