HI

my husband and i have been discussing alot about our future lately and how we see it going, we have thought that one day we might move back to Australia "some day" ive looked around and im feeling a little confused, is there anyone that might know what we need to do and how we go about it, i know that if we decide to do this before i get citizenship i understand that i will forfeit my right to live here and maybe only allowed to visit, but thats ok.

i miss home alot but its not the main reason why we would want to move back, my husband can make more money there and he had reasons that he couldnt leave here and come to Australia before we married (he has kids here that he couldnt leave), after we get custody of his kids from his parents this is an avenue we are thinking of doing, has anyone ever considered moving back? where would we start?

If you leave before you receive citizenship you are suject to losing your LPR status as you already know. However in the future you could apply for a IR-1 or better yet a DCF if you decided to come back. As a wife of a USC you will always be able to return, the question is how in depth the process will be, how long it will take. I would presume you would have enough time to plan for that.

We have talked about going back to her country a lot, and I think we will at some point in time. But that would be at least 5 years from now. I think going back to the other person's country is great in so many ways, get to see more of the world, visit with their side of the family much more, and many others. If what your waiting on is going to take awhile anyway I would just wait for citz and be done with uscis and visas for good and if that isn't an option the visa process will always be open to you. I know at some point I will prob get a chinese "greencard" and your husband prob feels the same about aus.

I understand where you are coming from. We'll likely move back to NZ (or Aus) too. I think NZ or AU is a nicer place to live the later part of life than the US, but that's just my opinion. However, we will at least wait until my wife has US citizenship. I suggest you do the same, if you can wait that long. It will save you hassle and headaches down the road.
