Joint and Co Sponser Issues

Hello Everyone,

My joint sponser (my ex boss) wants my parents to be my co sponsers also as a guarantee that if my husband (the beneficiary) files for welfare then the government will seek my parents out as well.

Here is the situation- my parents make below the income requirements (that is why they are not sponsering me to start with). My ex boss makes more than enough to cover the income requirements. He wants my parents to submit the i 1864 as well though.

Is this even possbile? One sponser makes more than enough to cover the income requirements and my parents make way below. Wouldn't it look weird that my parents are filing as well?

Has anyone had some experience with this type of situation?

They wouldn't accept your parent's I864 because they make under the income requirement.

Thanks, that is what I assumed as well. My boss wants some sort of security and I already agreed to sign an indemnity agreement. The whole sponsoring thing was his idea to begin with!

My grandmother had the same issue. She is worried about being responsible for someone else. However, our spouses can apply for citizenship 2 3/4 years after getting their green card which cancels the I864.

That was my plan anyway, file for citizenship as soon as his waiting period is over- I am finally at the stage to file the I-864 and the sponser is giving me such a hard time.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how they calmed their sponser's nerves?

We calmed hers by my dad going to an immigration lawyer without talking to me first.

I also told her that we will have traveler's insurance to cover the time period we will be without insurance coverage.

If it makes him feel better, have them fill out the 864 (or tell him they did)... They wont accept it anyway, but if it gets him to feel better and to sponsor you, what's the harm????

I do not have any issue with them filling it out, but would I get an RFE if I submit it?

Don't submit paperwork they don't want that's just a good rule of thumb

Does your ex boss understand that YOU will also be filling out an I-864 and that you are the primary sponsor? Perhaps it will make him feel better to know that you are taking responsibility as well?

He does know that I am the primary sponsor, but you bring up a good point- I think I should place more pressure on that fact. Thanks!
