Cost of Air Conditioners in Vietnam?

I thought every major appliance or electronics were more expensive in Vietnam than in the USA. Things in the malls and supermarket looked pricier too.

My brother-in-law is not asking for $400. This was my idea in talking with my wife. I asked if they were going to put AC downstairs when they remodel. It was just shocking to hear how much AC units cost over there. I have two $99 jobs that have been used like mad for years and years and never failed, so to hear $300 minimum just threw me.

When we came back to visit my wife's family last year, I bought two additional units for my son's and our rooms and it cost 600 bucks altogether at the Duty Free Shop in downtown Saigon across the street from Tax Center and almost next door to the new Louis Vuitton shop. US citizens can use the passport to get in and pretty buy anything there from candy, cigarettes, cosmetic, perfume to big ticket items like electronic and jewelry. Common AC brands I see Viet people use are Panasonic and Hitachi.

What do air conditioners cost in Vietnam? What price range? Here in the USA it's easy to get models starting at 89.99, but my wife is saying her brother had to spend near $400 on one the other day and that the cheapest start around $300.

Is that possible or is my wife delusional?

$400 is correct and that's the cheaper one, my wife bought one 3 years ago cost 12 million dollar. $400 for an AC is not alot, but monthly fees for the electricity will be about $100 USD if you are using 24x7.
