I've always been curious of why America is one of the few, if not the only of advanced countries who still can't accept evolution as science and leave it out books and it's questioned.. I guess fundamentalism is quite strong, and I'm not sure that's a good thing. Even in countries with a high homogeneous religion, i.e. any Catholic country, don't have any problem with combining religion and evolution. Is it really just american protestantism?

I am not willing to blame any one organized religion. To me this is a social stupidity issue that ranks right up there with the things we allow out government to do to us in the name of certain cliched concepts of freedom and the apparent danger of critical thought as opposite to these same things.

"Organized religion is a sham and a crutch for weak-minded people who need strength in numbers." -- Jesse Ventura

no.. fortunately I was educated under a system with separation of church and state, so no church stance of any kind was ever present in the classrooms..

And thank God Benito Juarez for that!!!

Well, for much that a country appreciates freedom, there are such things, like science, that really shouldn't be questioned just because some people with some beliefs have 'doubts'.. science is not a belief, it's a method..

Demonstrate where an explosion has ever created order.

Google "supernova" to see how the disorder of a massive explosion creates order when the expanding

shock waves trigger the formation of new stars.

Demonstrate where one creature has ever transformed into another creature.

Demonstrate how life came from non-living matter without the use of intelligence.

The process took millions of years. How can I "demonstrate" it?

Demonstrate where a star has ever been observed being born (and i don't mean, "oo look a bright spot i didn't see before").

Google it, dude. Hubble sees stars being born

Show me those, and i'll be a believer.

Don't be a "believer" or a "non-believer". Be a thinker and a questioner.

lol.. ok, what's the purpose of your oh so 'cryptic' questions?

but, I'll answer.. Yea I guess, but I don't believe them because catholic church believes it..Catholic church is against death penalty, so am I, but it's not because the church says so.. they are pro-life, I am pro-choice.. they approve evolution, I agree with evolution..

what's the point?

"Cryptic question"

:wow:

It was a reasonable basic question, that you dodge answering it is kinda odd.

While I find it common and reasonable to question one or two points of any given denomination... it does seem baffling when people belong to a faith they have very little agreement with,

especially, when the person is well read and strongly opinionated as you seem to be.

On a good note, if you get tired of being Catholic, you should have no trouble finding a new church-home as

a number are against the Death penalty.

it's not as baffling when you were raised in a country with a true separation of church and state. My beliefs and my reasoning are never at conflict, and I would think any well reasoned man can be a strong believer without any problem. I don't see I question a lot of things about the catholic faith... and, luckily I wasn't raised with a fundamentalist background, where I do have to agree 100% to it in order to be considered a 'true catholic', if someone was raised like that, good for them.. but, being religious does not equal to blindly agree to something

Scientists are not currently working on disproving the existence of omnipotence. Why would they? Science is about observable phenomena. Who knew?

I am going to grab a random scientist and have that person disprove the existence of you. How do you like them apples?

Joseph-

So if you've read up on it you wouldn't be lame enough to mistake your grandfather for a tobacco plant. And as for organic matter- it is what it is.

Again, its not about how smart others may be- its all about you and your ignorance. ;)

You expect God- or whatever manifestation of 'creation' there is to prove something to you?

That's the ultimate irony - and Douglas Adams had it right.

"I refuse to prove that I exist," says God...

"...for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing."

"But," says man, "the Babel Fish is a dead giveaway, isn't it? It proves you exist...therefore, you don't. QED."

"Oh dear," says God, "I hadn't thought of that," and promptly vanishes in a puff of logic.

:lol::lol::lol:

See there's a problem with some little things like an arc that saved enough animals, insects and people to repopulate a cpmpletely flooded earth, a talking snake, turning water to wine (did he have a permit? haha), parting a sea...the list is long.

I mean come on people. Get real.

Besides, if you want to know the truth/secret:

We are all god.

Work it baby.

:star:

PS No one needs to ditch their religion.

We need something to make us feel like there's a reason/purpose as to why we humans are here.

I'll add something to your list..

Long ago and far away we all came from a rock 4.6 billion years ago. Hmmmm... I guess thats about as crazy as thinking that 8 people could populate the earth (which is mathematically possible).

Its only crazy if you never paid attention in earth science back in middle school.

So, you're saying the indoctrination to believing "long ago and far away.." happens in middle school? Actually it begins much earlier these days.

It's not crazy, not so far away and IS scientifically possible ( although the 'rock' part is alittle simplistic)-you are catching on--Good on ya!!

edit--LOL-HAL gmta.

It all does come down to rocks. If the earth was molten at one time, and it rained on the rocks for millions of years though we can't tell you how the water got there, or how an atmosphere magically formed.

It is not crazy that 8 people can populate the earth to 6 billion in a very short time frame. I'm not saying its true, i'm just saying that its not only more plausible than the rock giving birth, it is mathematically possible. Every time the population increases, the increases rise exponentially.

Prove I don't exist Hal, I dare ya!

Science is beautiful, but there is a point where one has to stop asking why. Douglas Adams did have a point. What is the meaning of life? 42.

It has nothing to do with proving that something doesn't exist, and everything to do with proving that something does in order to call it science.

'indoctrination'?

do you honestly think that the big bang and origin of the universe, beginning of planet earth is 'indoctrination'?

so.. are we to believe, that God did it in 6 days, and just trash all the scientific evidence?
