Hi,

I wasnt able to get a SSN no before my I 94 expired.?But Went already with the AOS.And finished the biometrics yesterday.

My question is can I go to Social Security office to apply for an SSN? Can I just show my biometrics stamped.?

How can I go about this?

You need EAD or GC to apply for SSN.

Why did you wait until your card expired; now you will need Green Card or EAD to get one. If you get it with Green Card, then the SSN will be unristricted.

It really doesn't matter. The SSN before EAD/GC is pretty much useless. It isn't entirely useless, however without EAD or GC, it doesn't help much.

In my opinion, it is better to wait until you have your EAD/GC to get your SSN. Often, if you get your SSN before EAD/GD, you have to go back to get it changed.

Even more useless is to get an SSN before getting married (for k-1 folks), because then you have to deal with a name change later.

We waited until we recieved EAD.
