NVC sent case to wrong consulate, now what?

My fiance recently received Packet 3, however in an email New Delhi informed him that his case will be transfered to Mumbai. (Thank God! Who wants to have to interview in New Delhi if they don't have to?!!)

He is confused whether he should return the forms to New Delhi or what. Does anyone know or have experience with this? He has contacted New Delhi by email but has not yet gotten a reply. No luck contacted them by phone yet...

I don't understand...if the case was transferred to Mumbai, how is that the wrong consulate?

If they emailed him about the move already, why is there hesitation on sending the papers to Delhi? My guess would be to send them to Mumbai? Has your fiance contacted the Mumbai consulate to confirm his case being there?

You are right no one in their right mind would want to be interviewd in Delhi, they are so 'sour faced' and I wish they would make a change in staff if they haven't already. Some major negative vibes in that place for sure...must be the location.

Why don't you have him contact the Mumbai Embassy, since the case was sent there, they should now answer your questions.

Delhi is slow in their responses regardless whether or not your case is assigned there, so if your case isn't there anymore, I doubt they'll answer. Even if they do, they will just tell you to make any further inquiries to Mumbai.

Well the problem is that he hasn't been assigned a Mumbai case number. The same day he got Packet 3, an email from New Delhi (Related to where the heck is packet 3? -weeks late! A whole other story! ) stated that they noticed he lived in a state under Mumbai, and they would need to transfer it, nothing more. So he's wondering if he should hang on to it or send it to New Delhi and let them transfer it.

I was really puzzled when I got the letter from the NVC that it would be in New Delhi, as we had done our CRBA (Consular Report of Birth Abroad) in Mumbai and his interview for a tourist visa long back.

Have you contacted the NVC about their error at all? Call them if you haven't already. or at least email them to see what they say about it, if anything at all. You would think they would reply since this seems to be their mistake in the first place.

The NVC are the ones who assign us the case numbers, not the Embassies. I don't think you're going to get assigned a new one just because it got sent to the wrong Embassy, unless they have special number sequences for each individual Embassy. Let me know if they do because now I'm curious.

If I were you, I would still attempt to contact the Mumbai branch (embassy) with your NVC case number, explaining this mix-up and to ask them if they've received your case info yet from Delhi.

All in all, this has only created a slight delay, so don't be worried, it will be alright.

And one more thing. If I were in your place, I would 'not send anything more to Delhi'. It would just cause more delay. Wait till you get this cleared up, then proceed from there.

As of now Mumbai and NVC have told me to contact New Delhi. Both my finace and I have and no reply yet...
