Hi, everyone. My spouse and I are working and presently residing in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. I want to ask if it's possible to request for an extension of the CR-1 Immigrant visa. It's supposed to be good for six months but what if I am not ready to go to US within that period? Can I ask the CO to grant me an extension? I'd appreciate any reply related to my query. Goodluck to all of you!

With a good explanation in written they can re-issue/print the CR-1 visa with a new date. Each country is different you have to call to Consulate in that country.

You can always enter into the US, return to KSA, and just have your husband's family send you the green card by Fedex. As long as you have your green card, you can return back to the US. However, you can only stay outside the US for up to 1 year.

Many of my co-worker's wife's simply make one trip a year to the US just keep their green card active.

Thanks for taking time to share facts, SANDLAND.... That's a good advise. I'm sure things will work out, God willing. Goodluck to your journey.

Hi all,

I have a similar problem. We've got our CR-1 visa, but the expiration date of the visa is about one week before our 2nd wedding anniversary. Does anyone know, if we extend the visa so my husband arrives in the US after that date, will he automatically get the IR-1? or is it based on the date of the interview?

Also, does anyone have experience asking the London embassy for an extension?

Thanks for your help!
