advice on rescheduling interview

Hi,

I received my appointment for the Initial Interview for AOS, for in 4 weeks time. However it requires my husband to be there with me and he is currently deployed for a couple more months. The USCIS phonelines seem to be down for Labor Day, so I was hoping for some advice on what I should do before they open tomorrow morning.

Should I try to reschedule it over the phone tomorrow?

Should I make an infopass appointment to reschedule it at the office?

Or both?

I have read all the horror stories about cases being denied after rescheduling, but I think this is an instance where it is necessary. I am able to get all the other stuff needed to take by myself, but unfortunately I can't bring my husband back early for this.

Well you've definitely got a good cause to reschedule. If it is convenient, I'd make an infopass appointment and do it in person - if it isn't, then I'd try the customer service line first.

Do you think there is any chance they would interview me without him there? I can get a copy of his orders, stating that he is deployed. I would love to get this finished before he gets back!

And if not, will I get an automatically scheduled appointment or will they be able to schedule it based on me saying he will be back by December? Because if they automatically schedule one and it is before December I will have to reschedule again.

You can always ask, but I doubt they would do it without an interview. You might get a better response doing an info-pass than on the info line, but many have to travel way too far to do that. I hope you're calling the military customer service number - 1-877-247-4645.

This did not happen to me personally but I know of someone who was in the same position you were, and she went to her interview by herself, with deportation orders and was aprroved.

I have made an infopass appointment for next week, and I will take a copy of his orders and hopefully I can get a signed statement also saying he is deployed. I also have a power of attorney, which is an indication of a good relationship! So I will see what they say when I go, as it is only a couple of hours away. I don't want to just turn up at the interview and hope... lol.
