No wonder we're #387655578920 in maths.

Why do YOU think that is?

IK HOU VAN JOU, MARK

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

Knew a 3rd grade teacher with a Ph.D., instead of making her class memorize addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division tables, she just said, look it up. How many kids have you ran across behind the counter that couldn't give change for a buck?

Factoring is way beyond the scope of this thread.

The problem is mostly them not grasping BASIC mathematics properly when they were younger before being shuffled into the next class.

The problem for me was being shuffled from school to school during my Elementary years. By the 9th Grade, I had attended 6 different schools. My parents tried their best to help explain Math to me, but they barely understood it themselves. Now, as an adult - I have a strong respect for Math and those who are well-versed with it, but I can barely understand it myself. In college, I took 7 Math courses before I could pass the required entry-level course - with barely a C grade.

Do you get to use a scientific calculator? So much easier, back in my day, had to carry a book of mathematic tables with trig, common, and natural logarithms. Such a pain, besides solving the equation, had one professor that demanded 5 significant digit accuracy, slide rule was only good for three, I could do four. Such a pain to interpolate these tables, then using logs to raise a five significant digit, but had to use six to any power or root using these books of tables, then trying to remember what the problem was even about. So much easier with a scientific calculator, easier yet with MathCad, that will even solve the equation for you. Easier yet with application specific programs that do all the calculations for you. So you can you your imagination to design something better than be burden with all this trivial stuff. But also have to live with rush to market that takes a lot of the fun out of it.

In learning about interest equations, led me to build my own home, can pay the bank back three times what your house loan was for. And yes, rather pay 30% of that interest money to the government, then 100% of it to the bank.

I would have no idea on how to program one.
