My wife has a cousin in the Philippines and the family there is wondering about what she has said. She said that she can come to Canada without a visa to get married to a Canadian. I wonder if someone can say if this is actually possible? I will pass this information on if anyone can let me know.

I've certainly never heard of anyone being able to go to the U.S or Canada without a visa of some kind from the Philippines. Maybe it is possible but I doubt it. I'll be interested to see what other VJers post as I am sure someone will know somebody that has supposedly done this. It sure would be nice if it did work that way. Would have saved all of us here a lot of time and money.

some nationalities can come to the US w/out visas but filipinos are not included...even if a person has close ties to an embassy personnel, like a relative of mine who had a diplomat for a BF whose invitation was done through phone, a visa was still paid and applied for.

Right - Canada does not have fiancee visas so in effect, she doesn't need a visa to come to Canada to get married because none exists. That doesn't mean that she doesn't need a visa, however, because she does. Canada differs in one respect from the US that if you are legally present in Canada and get married to a Canadian, you are allowed to apply to become a permanent resident without having to leave the country. She can find a wealth of information here about visiting and immigrating to Canada: http://www.cic.gc.ca
