I'm very new to the forums. I've read everything on the K1 forums and it is a wonderful site! My fiance and I are planning to file next year for I-129F.

My question may be stupid but I didn't see anything in the guides. When the application is approved and forwarded to a Canadian embassy, are you able to choose which embassy you prefer? Or is it decided by the service centre?

I'd just like to know because it's a lot farther to Vancouver than to Calgary for me for example.

Your I-130 was approved in 109 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 333 days from your I-130 NOA1 date.

It depends where you live.

Western side of Canada gets Vancouver, Eastern gets Montreal.

And looking at your "From" thing, yours will be going to Vancouver.

Calgary does not process K-1s. Only Vancouver or Montreal.

Perfectly logical question.

The Embassy/Consulate is automatically selected for you based on the beneficiary's residency.

Unfortunately you don't really get a choice. There are two Consulates only in Canada that process K visas - the Montreal Consulate and the Vancouver Consulate - so your file is sent to the one that has jurisdiction over your part of Canada. Calgary doesn't do K visas so it is a moot point. If you live near Calgary your application will be sent to Vancouver. If you do an immigrant visa such as a CR/IR-1 visa, then there is only one Consulate in Canada that processes those and that is Montreal. Yeah, the need to travel these distances sucks but that is the way it is set up.
