Dear All,

I am an Indian citizen residing in Chennai. I am getting married to an US citizen this September. We are planning to apply DCF through Delhi consulate. Here are few questions regarding the process...

1, How long my wife sholuld stay in India to get an eligibility..

2, What are the proof we need to show for her residential ties in India

3, whether she need to hold a job over there

4, What are the documents I need to have with me

5, Like Canada DCF, Police clearence certificate is necessary in my Passport

6, How long the whole process will take after the filing of I 130.

Please get me a clear picture for all the above questions and I will be very much thankful to all..

PS: If any one applied from Chennai or going to apply, please send an email to dkraj1982@gmail.com for more interactions....

I've been in the US for about 20 years now. I am a US citizen and plan to marry a girl in Delhi sometime January 2010. Given the options, it seems that we are better off doing the DCF thing. My plan is to visit Delhi and get engaged to her this October, come back to US, resign from job, put everything in storage and fly back to India in January, get married in Jan, apply via DCF in March and hope to come back with her in July Aug.

It appears that they are not holding people against the 6 month stay requirement.

Do i need to have a an active job in US?

Sunilk: you do not need an active job in the USA, but you need some way of financially supporting your wife when she gets here. There are three ways of doing this:

- US based job (maybe see if you can take an unpaid "leave of absence" rather than resign your current job).

- Assets- you will need x3 the income level to sponsor on assets, and the assets need to be able to be converted into cash within one year without undue hardship (ie shares and savings are good as is a second car, a house may be difficult if it is close to the amount needed)

- Get a co-sponsor; a US based person such as a friend or family memeber who is willing to co-sponsor your wife to come here and take financial responsibility.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

No, three times the yearly income- so if it is just you and your spouse, no kids etc, that is the current 125% of poverty level (18'231 dollars I think) x 3= approx 55'000 dollars in assets.
