how can I make sure I will have my last name&husbands last name on Green card

Hello guys:

We are still waiting for NOA2.I've used my first name and my last name on all forms so far when asked ,except our marriage cert. which was given by Orange County USA.

Now I realize that since I couldn't include my husband's last name on any of the forms,most likely I will have My first name and my last name on my Green Card & Social Sec. card.

I'd like to have My first name + my last name + my husband's last name on any card that I will receive eventually.

Before we move forward further,I need to know what can I do to make sure that this will happen.

Montreal will issue the green card and visa in whatever name is in your passport, so if you want your first name + maiden name + husband's last name the easiest way to get that done is to apply for a new passport with the names you want. The SSN card will also be issued in your the name on your green card.

PS-I used a combination of names on the forms, in the end it doesn't matter. What's on the passport at the time of the interview is what will be on your green card.

The government body that will issue your green card once it's approved is the USCIS. Whatever name you put down in the forms you submit to them is what will appear on your card. The NVC and the USEM, for their part, seem to prefer what name is on the beneficiary's passport (regardless of what's in the forms).

Since your timeline says you already got NOA2, you probably can't write USCIS now and ask for a correction. But don't worry. You can still bring this up with the consul at the embassy, or with the immigration officer at the Port of Entry. My green card was issued in my married name because it's what the uSCIS has on file. If this doesn't work, you can apply for a change of name in both your green card and social security card. The latter costs nothing; the former has a fee.

By the way, you file for change of name using a USCIS form AFTER you receive your card. Alternatively, you can try overnighting a mail to them after you arrive in the US, requesting they update your name in their files to your married name, and use that for your green card.

thanks for all the replies..it was very informative.I don't believe I wanna re-new my canadian passport now since it's too much hassle and didn't inform can. gov. for my marriage either...

I will do it after I receive GC and SSC
