Will you be a 'socialist' on the day that 'earning' your health insurance is not enough?

I prefer the government taking over the entire healthcare delivery system over the stealing the earnings of our youth to tranfer even more wealth to the segment of the population that has the most of it. Just put the old folks in the back room where they belong, and let them take of the kids while the parents go off to work. Social security is a ridiculous ponzi scheme, and you know it.

Jeez. Almost sounds like a 'death panel' school of thought.

I'm just sayin'. :P

There's a very simple fact I haven't readen in all those topics debating about this new health system in the US.

Health expenses in the US cost 6% of the GDP more than any other developped country for 16% less of the population.

It doesn't seem to bug anyone to pay 6% more for less?

Or do you people think you're really paying those extra 6% for a better service?

It's been a long time I wanted to ask, this topic is the lucky winner.

I want the government to nationalize the whole thing, but I will take single payer in the meantime. That way it don't matter what it costs. Just tax the rich to pay for it all, starting with the doctors, lawyers, and insurance executives, oh, and tax the ###### out of the politicians too. :star:

Why would you be in favor of national healthcare but oppose Social Security?

Wow, you are way out there buddy. Like I said, the bus is heading toward Tacoma and you want to go to Cleveland. Better start hitchhiking.

Opponents of health care reform either:

1. Don't believe that reforming our current health care will bring that number down.

2. Don't want to pay for those who cannot.

3. Just want to see Obama fail so they can vote another Republican into the WH.

So if I understand correctly, some people don't care paying 6% extra as long as they don't pay anything for anyone else? ;)

I know it's crazy. I believe they are in the minority, especially when most Americans know of someone, a relative or friend who can't afford health insurance. If we get meaningful reform passed where all Americans have insurance one way or another, the people that gripe will eventually get over it...maybe when they start collecting on Social Security or Medicare, but eventually they'll all be "sucking on the teet of guvmint."

OMG.

Why would anybody want to go to Cleveland? :P

Bill wants to...find a nice pasture where blue dogs lie.

Typical. First you tell me the bus is going to Spokane, and now it's going to Tacoma. Boy, it's sure hard to hit a moving target. :star:

Yes.

I'll tell you what - I firmly believe the quality of care you get anywhere in the modern world has little to do with what you pay for the care and everything to do with the kind of person your Doctor is.

I agree - which is why wealthy Brits and Canadians come here when they get really sick -

because the best doctors are here.

Seriously - I don't know of any Democrats, regardless of how 'conservative' they may be, share your views on Social Security. How long have you been a registered Democrat and which actual Democratic politicians have you voted for?

I've changed parties about five times in my lifetime. I've been a Democrat since 2005. I voted for Obama in the last election. I haven't voted a party line for a long time.

I'm really curious about what it is going to happen for real. What is going to be that system exactly...

I don't think that taking our socialist system in Europe is very accurate. For sure, now our social security in France is broken and outdated.

They are trying to fix it with rubber tape but it's very hard to change and repair something that has been dusfonctionnal for years, mainly because of the pyramidal system.

When the system was created they couldn't know the pyramid would turn upside down.

Once you remove that, take the lessons of our mistakes, there's no reason it wouldn't work.

It seems also american people forget that our Social Security covers only 70% for the expenses average, for the rest you can pick the kind of insurance you want.

I was very surprised you don't have that freedom. At the end, the average working american citizen seems to have to stick with the insurance that is "offered" by the company he's working for. I find this very annoying...

That was true 20 years ago. Not anymore.

And actually just like you said, this is more about where is working this or that special surgeon you really want to see for a specific condition.

Often they are in the US, why? Not because they're american, but because that's where they can make more money!

Still it's untrue, France has its bunch of world famous specialists too. Non mais !

Edit: Oh gee, ok that's basically what you said. It's getting late for me, sorry. ;)

Wouldn't Social Security become solvent again once the retired Baby Boomers died off?

It wouldn't be enough.

We don't make enough babies!

Oh hmm it's been a long time I haven't checked the age pyramid.

Oddly I think there will be a bunch of recession babies! :D

Exactly. Make health care "more affordable" and they will leave.

Well they won't leave the planet.

I have to confess that I don't know how to reduce the basic cost american of a consultation when most of doctors have a scary loan to pay back...

Here usually you can go to med school without even getting one. It's almost free and they're getting paid by the government once they start their 5th year.

And we are actually still missing doctors, surgeons, dentists... I read a report showing it's going to be hell to find a dentist here in 20 years.

Still I'm not sure that's a good excuse. No affordable health care because we want to keep our greedy brain doctors, hmm...

Just curious. Why are you missing these medical people when the education is almost free and they get a government paycheck after their 5th year?
