When Limbaugh & Coulter talk a certain crowd listens & therefore (like it or not) they have influence. Should politicians be held to a higher standard? Yes I concur that they should. In the end though its the age old "two wrongs make a right" philosophy that far too many people (and VJers) apparently don't have an issue with.

slice it however you want, coulter and limbaugh do what they do as it gets them better ratings. i can't say that pelosi falls in that crowd. i expect better from elected officials, but not from talk show/columnists.

Nowhereman, if you want to equate politicians with political pundits, feel free to do so. Accept the fact that some of us don't see them as equal or deserving of equal admonishment. I tend toward greater sanctimony about the attitudes of elected leadership who have the power to tax and spend. Besides, we have you and Pike to be outraged over the partisanship for the rest of us exhibit. You're doing a good job of being outraged, but directing it at us is a non-starter.

I already said Pelosi's comments were hypocritical and that politicians should be held to a higher standard. However there is absolutely nothing preventing you or anyone else for denouncing rhetoric from both the left & right, except your own biases & prejudices (which you apparently not only accept but are proud of).

One thing we can agree upon is that no matter what anyone says you & your buds will continue to make the same rhetoric-filled remarks & exhibit your selective outrage (which of course makes all of hypocrites). Every once in while I can find a decent, respectful debate on here but it has never been or never will be with someone as close-minded as you.

The problem isn't having different opinions, it's all the rhetoric, misinformation & partisan BS that is going on. You see it nationally & as I have pointed out its rampant on VJ. If you cut out all the BS from the far left & far right we could have resolutions on just about every major issue we face today, but instead all we're getting is finger pointing & bashing. I don't recall it being like this during the Reagan years or Bush, Sr. I do recall it during the Clinton years & it was really bad during the Bush years. Now some of the Dems (like Pelosi) are doing & saying some of the same things you saw during the Bush era. It's a mess.

It's in a pundits job description to supply some rhetoric, and I understand that, so it's not about prejudice, biases or close-mindedness for the left or the right or any points in between. It's about priorities and realities. I would recommend that yo come down from that high horse you think you're on because, whether you are willing to admit it or not, your biases, prejudices, and lack of credibility are widely displayed, which is why we don't take your selective outrage seriously.

Come on now VW we both know that you are simply hiding behind the fact that Pelosi is a politician & Limbaugh is a commentator. Cheney made practically the same comments Pelosi is making now (e.g. calling disruptors unamerican) and not a single one of you had a problem with that. I also disagree with you about rhetoric... by definition it is derived from half-truths, exaggerations & stereotypes. As for my "selective outrage" focus on the message and not your feelings about the messenger & you know I have a point.

I don't really see the big distinction between what a politician says and what a commentator does. Seems to me that some arguments are unjustifiable no matter who says them.
