last night and- out of the blue I got called.

I was alittle blindsided, I guess people who are registered to vote got randomly picked.

Anyway-the question came ' what do you think about the President's plan for Healthcare reform?'

Having only a second to give an answer-I decided to be completely honest and say

"If I knew what was in the pending bill-I would be able to give an answer to that question....To me-more to the point...What exactly is IN the pending bill?'

To which I got a less-than-clear waffled answer of 'It's going through a series of checks and balances for language, legality etc'.

Hmmmmm pfff

Well, I responded that I would be more than happy to give an opinion and support v non-support once the bill has actually been READ by the folks wanting opinions on it!

I mean #######? I honestly got the impression our state representative was having this meeting w/o knowing what's in the bill .....then asking MY opinion on what's in the bill.....

Blind leading the blind. If he doesn't know what's in it- HTF am I supposed to know enough to give an opinion?

To me that's like saying 'go and vote on a new law...yes or no...but we are not telling you what that law is yet'.

Oh btw-I was not the only one confused as all heck on the meeting thing last night.

Still confused.

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

I agree. No matter what you side on... people need to be better informed.

BTW... LOVE your siggie.

Yes, people (including me) NEED to be better informed. That, maybe would help 'quash' some of the 'rumour-mongery' and fear.

My point was that I am a regular schmoo. I'm not illiterate and I understand some of the most complex (scientific and mathematic) laws and theories ever put out there, but reading what I have of the bill-it's hard to get a definate understanding of what is actually in it, how it's going to work-how it's going to be paid for and how it is actually going to benefit or not benefit folks.

Thx re-the siggy. :) I got it originally from a professor who's class I was in, then I found it again on the facebook page of a group I belong to.

 why do you hate obama? :P

Agreed. If only politicians would include a *cliff notes* version of their bills with a point by point list of things in it. Or just cut out the legalese and write it in VJtalk.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

:)

I'm not saying that the language of the bill needs to be in VJspeak. What I am saying is that those of us that didn't graduate with a doctorate in Law need alittle help actually understanding specifics of what it's in it, because understanding and knowing what's actually being proposed would go a long way in reducing the fear or whatever and people could actually make an informed opinion based on what's IN IT-not what's spun out there.

IMO-I got the feeling last night that the audience was basically split into thirds.

One third with insurance and understandably concerned on what's going to happen. One third without and wanting to know what's going to happen. And the other third ( with or without H.I.) just wanting to know ####### is in it and what's being proposed before expressing an opinion.

Either way, the audience was united by the fact that they didn't know what's in the bill - or how it would affect them-and in one way or another that was at the bottom of everyone's concerns.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt

My crackpot theory on this: the waffle and legalese are added to the bills to make them impossible to

understand without fully researching the previous referenced bills and an army of lawyers. So much for

the "government of the people, by the people, for the people..."

At what point was it of those three?? It may be crackpot but its certainly not too far from the truth IMO.
