More proof that liberals have utter contempt for middle-class workers that they claim to be supporting during campaigns. "You're dumb, I'm smart"

I'm more right wing than you entire family combined, however, I'm certainly not going to buy this right wing yank bull ####### on health care reform.

So now the liberals have contempt for the middle-class. Strange considering which party the unions support. Please don't pretend the republican party is for the common man.

Common sense, this reform is most beneficial for middle-class blue collar workers yet you guys are the one bitching the most. Unbelievable really. Sorry that is just dumb, no other way to put it. Unless blue collar workers are earning what they earn in Aus. Which judging by the sheer poverty, I highly doubt. I would be begging this reform goes through. Just remember, it is blue collar workers that have been hit the hardest from this crisis, not me.

Does it really? What about all those "rich bastards"(your words not mine) that you work with, do they have a clue? Do they have a degree?

I agree with Natty, please do try to stay with the issue.

Your right, they don't want reform. The current system works well for them and they certainly don't give a ####### about any yank middle-class family.

Thanks for proving my point. I had forgotten about that angle.

Wow you missed my point all together. Do you have a degree?

Its not healthcare reform - its government take-over. Private sector cannot compete with arbitrarily set prices by the government.

Yes elected liberals and people with the "i'm smart, you're dumb" attitude have nothing but contempt for their constituents, but you're right, Republicans are the same way. I'm not a republican.

Saying its strange that the Unions support democrats, really doesn't prove anything when you really break it down. A majority believe the earth was flat, large object fell faster than little objects, and that if you were ill, you had bad blood and needed to be drained (hence how George Washington was killed by his doctor). So, "a majority this, and majority that - doesn't prove anything". Could mean more people are wrong on an issue. Please no one twist that statement about George Washington - it has nothing to do with the healthcare debate (Pike).

If things are so great in those countries that you people list for examples of wonderful socialized medicine, then why don't you move there? Go to the wonderful utopian Socialized medicine countries instead of trying to come here, or bring your SO here. 65% of us are happy with our healthcare and insurance - we won't accept changing it.

The only reason my husband and I are living here is because I happen to have a good, stable job that includes a rent free house. If that ever changes, it's across the pond we go.

If there ever was a place and time for NHC do you honestly think that right now it that time to try and push this through, considering the economic state of this country

Great Britian began the NHS right after WWII, when their nation was on the verge of bankruptcy.

Oh so its a good thing to do it now? Can you explain?

So you're saying you're here because you have a good house, and good living, and a good life.. Hmmmmm...

Thats really an odd reason to live in America.

Even if it's crappy today - as many people believe - they don't want a cure that's worse than the disease.

The government may have the best interests of the public in mind, but they really do fail in terms of

execution and the result is usually a massive amount of spending and waste. Yes - even worse than

the private sector (which is wasteful enough.)

The reform has two parts.

1. Cover people with no coverage, who currently get nothing.

2. Improve the coverage for those who have insurance but are held to ransom.

How can anyone not understand that? Covering the first group has zero effect on me but provides basic services for them. It operates in a similar fashion to our Public/ Private health insurance back in our birth countries.

At the end of the day, if the United States hcs was so good and efficient, why has no other developed country cloned it and implemented it in their country. Rather, they have used the UHS or NHS model.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Jeez Louise - the point being that an economic recession isn't a barrier to healthcare reform.

Red herring!

Well, we don't really make a good living. I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion. It's only because we live in a rent free house that we can afford to even live here at all. At the moment, it's easier. That's all.

You're right for once. It isn't a barrier - its recipe for government take-over. You spend 3 trillion dollars; which only makes the recession worse. More and more people unemployed, on purpose. Which means they have no healthcare, and want it... More and more people wanting the reform! As Rahm said, never waste a good crisis. And don't hesitate to make it worse! (thats my interjection).

Come on now. A party against regulation, against decent pay, against protecting the consumer, against investing in the country's infrastructure, against programs to assist the poor is not a party for the middle-class. I am a member of a right-wing party in Aus that is country fist. So I know first hand what it actually means to support the country (aka people since they make up a country) first.

Either the developed (civilized) world is wrong on this issue or those against reform are wrong. Whose it going to be?

But... it does NOT have zero effect on you - how do you plan on caring for 40 million new people without

increasing the number of doctors or lowering the quality of care for everyone else?

Lets see if I have this is correct and it's just another piece to consider ....

Under lend lease, the US send about $30b worth of material to the UK. After the war the US accepted about $10b in cash/goods and the Roosevelt/Truman administrations considered the fighting carried out by their allies to have been sufficient "indirect" repayment for the bulk of the lend/lease assistance, and the cost of other aid was written off.

Fortunately for everyone (US/UK) there was acknowledgment on both sides of the pond to put the burdens of the war years behind so countries could rebuild. Could the UK have pushed NHC at that time if the entire war bill needed to be repaid? I don't know. Oh well ... BTT

The second such claim from as many posters in this thread and still not a shred of fatual evidence to support it.

Private sector cannot compete with arbitrarily set prices by the government.

Which is why UPS and Fed Ex went out of business long ago - just couldn't keep up with the USPS. Oh wait, they both are doing quite well. Something doesn't add up and I'd say it's the assumption.

Funky how people claim - not in this particular case but quite often in the very same sentence - that the government can't do anything right or efficient and yet, somehow private businesses cannot compete with the oh so ineffecient government.
