In the next 90 days, USCIS will launch a vastly improved Web site that will, for the first time ever, allow applicants to get updates on their status of their applications via e-mail and text message and online.

What I don't understand is, you could do this for a long long time. Getting your status online and getting emails about it. Looking at what else they are doing, there is a bunch of new stuff, but from what the president said, they already do those things...

Anyone know anything else about this? From the timeframes they are talkign about, looks like end of september for the new site. I heard an interview on the CNET Buzz out Loud podcast last week (Monday I think) with a guy who's high up in IT in the government about making changes to the site.

My wife read about this recently as well. I wouldn't be surprised if this was akin to an old house that has rotted through and through on the inside with a brand new paint job on the outside.

A lot of companies take a similar approach: why bother fixing what's broken when we can give everyone the impression that everything has been fixed by making the UI new and shiny. I hope I'm wrong here.

Great info, Jason.

I wasn't able to log in with the above link, maybe a technical problem on my end. But I found this one with the same info as well.

Any little thing they do will be an ' improvement ' .

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.
