Controversy: The poster, which depicts President Barack Obama as Batman villain The Joker has divided U.S. opinion

What positive statement about alternative policies on health care does that poster put forward, exactly?

I don't care about it one way or another, but to somehow portray it as a legitimate alternate debate is ludicrous in the extreme.

Health care reform, as it stands - the suggestion that government involvement in papering over the cracks in insurance coverage is not socialism.

And there is not a sniff of single-payer national healthcare a la Canada, UK, France, Germany etc. It just isn't on the table.

That's not what the policymakers have said in the past. They view the reforms as stepping stones to single payer.

"A single payer health care plan, a universal health care plan. And that’s what I’d like to see," President Barack Obama said to the Illinois AFL-CIO on June 30, 2003."

Must have been the Obama channeling the Joker. Something about cosmetic surgery and mental health funding to prevent crime.

Are you here to explain the poster's meaning in terms of alternative health care reform? Mocking something that is NOT going to happen is kinda crazy but what the hey, you buy into the socialism is evil scenario, it's funny, but justifying it as legitimate alternate proposal? I'm all ears.

That isn't what's on the table though - there is no impetus for completely scrapping the private insurance system in favor of a healthcare system owned, funded and run by the Federal Government.

As to what happens in the future - noone is in control of that; but its safe to say that this isn't something that could be introduced during Obama's tenure (even if he secures a second term in office).

I'll explain what a stepping stone means some other time. There's no reason to outlaw private insurance but when anything is subsidized, it will be used by more people. Private health insurance will only make sense for those able to pay high premiums for better quality health care.

It's highly probable some health reforms will be enacted but won't be single payer right now. The trillion dollar bill isn't insignificant even in cash bloated DC. The only thing that can derail the effort will be congressmen getting heat from their constituents. You may not have been here in 1993 when Clinton's health care plan died a slow and painful death. The only thing different now is the voting population is older and more scared but are they more afraid of high medical costs or paying a trillion dollars to fix it with a lot of unknowns?

The Hillary lookalike didn't even address that Obama was quite clear in wanting single payer and it was in context. Her only response was to replay the same lines we've heard from Obama as if they were never aired; therefore, so was Obama lying then or now? If he changed his mind, why? If Obama came out and said more people will pay to insure everyone then I'd say at least he's being candid but it's not happening.

Spoof poster of Obama's face painted as The Joker branded 'dangerous and mean-spirited'

A poster depicting Barack Obama as Batman villain The Joker has been called 'mean-spirited and dangerous' by the U.S. President's supporters.

The image, which has been adopted by Mr Obama's critics, shows him wearing the white face paint and smudged red lips of the character most recently played by the late actor Heath Ledger. Beneath the picture reads the word 'socialism'.
