Gardasil, CR-1 Visa.

Hello my fellow VJers and Canadians!

So I have a important question regarding the vaccinations. Mainly the dreaded Gardasil. I really, really don't want to take it but I know I have to. :(

So since my husband and I have gone for the CR-1 visa, can I get away with just getting one of the three shots (as long as I get the first shot during my interview or before it), or will they make me take all 3? I tend to have bad reactions to vaccines, so if I can get away with the one shot, then I'll be happy. But if I need all 3..well, I pray. >_<!

If anyone has experience in this, please share with me. =)

Thank you so much, and goodnight. :)

From my understanding you don't need to complete the whole sequence at the time of immigration. If you have a history of bad reactions to vaccinations you may see if your doctor will write a letter for you stating that based on your medical situation the vaccination is medically not recommended and see if you can get an exemption. It will depend on if your doctor agrees that getting the vaccination may cause you more harm than the potential 'good' of the vaccine itself.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I don't know much about the CR-1 visa but I know for the K1 they expect to see your completed immunizations at the AOS interview or something to that effect. If theres no follow up for the CR-1 than I would say you are in the clear if you only want to get the one shot.

I know I only had 2 of the 3 shots when I went to my medical. I got the third before my interview, but did not need to provide proof; they didn't even ask about it. I don't know i they will inquire in the future though; since the Gardisil requirement is so new, I don't know if anyone here can answer that question.

I dreaded and hated to get this vaccine. I didn't feel it was necessary or tested well enough, in my opinion.

I only did 1 of the 3 shots before my interview. I have been in the States for 6 months now and never went back for my 2nd and 3rd shots. And no one mentioned it at the interview either (only needed something saying I had had the first shot). Hopefully they don't ask me about it in 10 years, but if they do, maybe I'll just move back to Canada lol.

My Fiancé just had her medical exam today. The doctor gave her a “blanket waiver” due to her past reactions to shots. So basically, she got all the required shots needed except Gardasil. The only thing I’m worried about is if this will delay the possibility of her getting the visa at the interview tomorrow (8-4-9). Hopefully this wont but there is also a possibility she might have to file for a I-693 “Examination and Vaccination Record”. I hope this will never have to happen!

I would hold off as long as possible and have the first one right before your medical/interview. There is a significant delay in between shots, so if you time it right you'll probably only be forced to have 1 shot.

i only had one shot and wasn't planning on doing the rest, im on a k1 just doing my aos am i gonna have issues?

You might since you are out of the timeline for the shot before your AOS. The only people I've seen NOT need the 2nd and 3rd shot for AOS were the people who filed right after they arrived so they weren't within timeline for their second shot.

You may get an RFE and then have to get the I-693 form transcribed by a Civil Surgeon and they may require the second shot then.

Good luck.

Did you had to pay for such a waiver?

what you say sound confusing.. if she got her visa.. she don't need it until the AOS ..so maybe she will need it anyway

But good news ...

No. My fiancé had conflicting allergies with some of the components that are in Gardasil. During the medical, the doctor gave her a blanket waiver for the shot (Gardasil). The blanket waiver permitted her to get the visa without requiring her to get the shot (for now or AOS). Because this wavier was issued by an approved doctor, we didn’t have to pay for a thing.

How did she prove she was allergic ? her doctor ?
