ok, a simple prep question I hope I can get some feedback? I'm preparing the Petition I-130 now and am getting all the things together for the bonifide proof part. How much should I send, or does the majority matter for the interview? So far this packet is going to be about 6 inches thick if I include copies of all our emails, chats, airline, photos. I forewarned my mom and my cousin (who was present at our wedding) that I'd like them to complete an affidavit. Anyone an example I could use?

Sorry for the newbie question - I just dont want to overkill this thing if its not important as yet. Thanks e/one!

Please only send what they have requested with the I-130. The I-130 does not request any pictures except the passport ones. Do not ssend the emails or phone chats. Please read the guidelines and follow them to the letter. Do not send things that are not requested.

Do not try to re-invent the wheel. The guides have been written for a purpose.

"6 inches thick" does sound like a wee bit much

However, I think you SHOULD include some pictures of your wedding day for sure!

The guides say to include evidence of a bonifide marriage and a picture is worth a thousand words...

Note: Evidence of a Bonifide Marriage

The USCIS now requires that when filing an I-130 for a spouse that you include evidence of a bonifide marriage. They list examples of acceptable evidence as:

1. Documentation showing joint ownership or property; or

2. A lease showing joint tenancy of a common residence; or

3. Documentation showing co-mingling of financialresources; or

4. Birth certificate(s) of child(ren) born to you, thepetitioner, and your spouse together; or

5. Affidavits sworn to or affirmed by third parties havingpersonal knowledge of the bona fides of the maritalrelationship (Each affidavit must contain the full nameand address, date and place of birth of the person makingthe affidavit, his or her relationship to the petitioner ofbeneficiary, if any, and complete information and detailsexplaining how the person acquired his or herknowledge of your marriage); or

6. Any other relevant documentation to establish that thereis an ongoing marital union.

I also found this link on examples of sworn affidavits

Actually, use this link for the Affidavits instead http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...c=124410&hl

:star:

JAPrincess.. you are so kind! thank you. I knew when I read the guides it said "any other evidence" so perhaps I will include a picture or two? So when do they need all of the other ongoing evidence?

The guides do say to include "relevant documentation to establish that there is an ongoing marital union" so I would include some proof that you communicate, just don't over-do it...

I would also suggest you ask the question in the "IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedures" forum

After all, I am filing for K1 and don't want to give you any wrong advice!

Read that whole link on Affidavits as there is some conflicting posts, and then make your best judgement ;)

Ok! Thanks for linking me to that area. I am still a little new to this and post most of my questions for fellow Jamaican filers! But I will post there as well. So far, I have been reading conflicting posts and think I will just stick to a happy medium. A couple of photos, a few emails, and a couple of affidavits.

I appreciate your input regardless of your filing sitatuation! :)

Atsle, as a married couple you only need your marrage certificate and letters from two people to attest to the fact that you are in deed a couple.

All of the other stuff you can bring to the interview, or your husband can show at the interview.

atsleumas welcome to vj

this is a question ppl ask ALL the time and is hotly debated so its a very valid one

i have heard mixed responses

we sent our wedding cert, 2 affidavits, as well as a statement from a joint account we have together. he included his passport as proof of his citizenship and copied all the pages so they will also see the jamaican immigration stamps as proof as well.

i don't think he put any pics with it (hubby put the package together) and i have heard its not necessary but as JaPrincess said, it can't hurt to include a few.

sometimes i get paranoid and wonder if what i sent will be enough but i have heard of ppl sending less and getting through and as you can see roxie didn't send alot of stuff and she got through

I864 delivered November 2nd.....nvc logged it on November 5th

DS230 delivered November 6th.....nvc logged it on November 12th

Welcome to US Letter May 19th

Card production ordered May 25th
