Flying to the States when visa issued

Hi all

When we finally have our I-130 parents visa, is it allowable for us to fly to the USA on separate flights, albeit 2 hours apart?

We are flying our small dog with us to Florida and do not want him to be sat in a Cargo area in Orlando for longer than is necessary while we complete our immigration arrival.

As such we are considering flying on two flights. I would travel on the first and my wife, with our dog as cargo on the second. (one of us has to be on the same flight)

This means I could actually clear immigration, customs and get a rental car in that two hours and be ready to collect our dog with the minimum of delay.

Once he is collected I could then swing by arrivals and collect the missus!

Would immigration question our separate arrival or would that be ok?

Thanks to all

Richard

I have no idea regarding the original question.

However you may well face issues which you are not aware of, that restrict the time of the year that you can actually travel and your route.

There are federally mandated ground temperatures above and below which you will not be able to transport your dog by air, so be careful that if you are transiting through a different airport the ground temperatures are not likely to breach that.

Most airline systems will simply not allow you to book the dog if that is likely to be the case. But be aware of it and make sure you don't book your own flights then try to add the dog as hold cargo at the airport, (and yes I have seen people try to do that).

Heat Restriction Cold Restriction

Pets cannot be accepted when the current or forecasted temperature is above 85 degrees Fahrenheit (29.4 degrees C) at any location on the itinerary. Pets can not be accepted when the ground temperature is below 45 degrees Fahrenheit (7.2 degrees C) at any location on the itinerary.

Snub-nosed dogs and cats will not be accepted when the current or forecasted temperature is above 75 degrees Fahrenheit (23.8 degrees C) at any location on the itinerary. The restriction for cold temperature restriction may be waived with a written veterinarian statement. The low temperature acclimation certificate/statement/form must include the following:

Name and address of the passenger

Name of the animal

Name and signature of licensed veterinarian

Veterinarian's accreditation date and number

Temperature which the animal is acclimated

The letter must be dated within 10 days of the first flight the animal will be on and within 30 days of any subsequent travel within the same itinerary. It may be necessary for a passenger to obtain an additional letter for a lengthy trip

When temperatures fall below 20 degrees Fahrenheit ((-6.6 degrees C), pets may not be checked even with a statement of low temperature acclimation.

Good luck.

Thanks for your reply.

We have all the travelling with pets details, data and documentation already sorted. We have also spoken to Vets, Cargo, Shipping, Customs and Airlines.

It is just a logistical question regarding the two of us.

Best wishes

Richard

The process at the POE doesn't take all that long. No need to inconvenience yourselves by taking separate flights. The airport in Orlando is well air conditoned. Your dog will be just fine.

If you want to travel on two diffrent flight to allow for one of you to be all clear at immigration and to arrange the hire car then you can do that with no issues regarding your POE for you or your wife.

You are not traveling on only one visa, you both will have a IR-5 visa in your passports and you can travel alone or together with no issues. The Airport is well air conditioned so your dog will have no problems with the heat. I can understand you being worried about the dog getting stressed.

Plan what will work best for you both.

Thanks once more for kind replies.

I have flown through Orlando many times but our dog is being handled through the cargo system and as such we have to collect him from the cargo area which is outside of the main terminal building.

We have to drive there to clear customs and then collect. By then he would have been in the crate some 14 hours and will be needing a comfort break!
