Thanks for clearing up the usual mess of the purported 'experts'.

I'm going slightly off subject, but why does it seem this sort of thing is getting worse? I don't remember so many random answers this time last year. Maybe its not worse and its all in my head.

From what you wrote I understood that I have to register it in Italy too.

Is it mandatory? Do I have to do it right after my marriage?

Thanks again!

I spoke to my friend today who married in Vegas thinking it was a joke, he is shocked! In Italy it can take up to 9 years to cancel a marriage and there's no way to get married in church if you are a divorced. And they want to get married in church (family tradition):crying:

We married in the US and then moved to Italy. I am italian citizen. After you get married contact the italian consulate in US and they will explain how to have your marriage registered in Italy too. In Florida they asked me for the apostille. It tooks awhile to have it but not rocket science.

The consulate will help you.

At the risk of complicating the discussion...............

History..........

Married in NY state then divorced. Was also annulled by church

Married in NY state for 2nd time - 5 years later & different person - civil marriage only

Divorced in state of Oregon. about 6 1/2 years ago.

Want to get married overseas before filing for CR-1

Details...........

Have official divorce decree from Oregon. Will obtain apostile on it.

Getting birth certificate from NY State with apostile

Getting paperwork for "no record of Marriage" from state of Maine and apostile on it.

Will have all translated in other country

Question(s)

Is it possible that I will also require a copy of 1st divorce decree??

Since I have lived in other states, sould I obtain from the the "no record of marriage" also??

Other input welcome

Thanks

The uscis does not expect you to give them proof showing all the places you didn't get married, but yes you will need proof of all your divorces.

Simply put, how could I have gotten married a 2nd time in NY state if the first had not been disolved by divorce??

Also, I am inquiring about getting married overseas. Proof of both marriages ending or net? I had figured that the most recent divorce should be adequate.

Thanks
